Thread: 5.0 Pet Changes

In the live letter they said pets would not longer be able to be targeted by enemies and players. What about the chocobo companion?

They said the SCH pet as well falls under this, the fairy will not be targetable (except for directing it to do stuff). The Chocobo essentially functions as an AI party member, it's not a pet.

Does that mean that Topaz Carbuncle and Titan-egi are useless now? I used to summon these to help out lowbies when the tank leaves early.

It was implied that they will have new abilities, probably giving the summoner defensive buffs/healing so they can still solo as effectively as before

Chocobo's aren't pets, they're companions.

This change was purely for SMN/SCH/MCH (Also, if you're optimistic, BST)

They mentioned that Tank pets will be changed. Likely to be something that can still be useful for survival, possibly actually allowing Topaz Carbuncle/Titan-Egi to be used in Duties without being as big of a DPS loss (If at all) and provide SMN some much needed survivability (Given that Physick is garbage and Drain is being removed)

As for on-topic: the changes look good. But I am wondering how Titan will be handled. It wouldn't really feel the same if Titan was just sitting on the sideline cheering the WoL on. Look at me Titan... I'm the tank now!
