Several Newbie questions !!!

Firestly let me thanks you for reading this and that you have my gratitude. !!!

my Specs:
- current doing MSQ Level 57
- current level 67
- current $1.1M Gills in pocket
- still equiped Level 60 gear (level 255)
- im sure i will hit Level70 before starting SB
- i cant afford to buy level380 gear from market (not enough fund)
- i never done any raid
- im not plan to do any raid in SB, by the time i finished SB people would already moving on shadowbringers

Here is my questions i need help

1. What is the best way to get level 380 gear?
* I can buy materials and ask FC to craft for me?
* Or low Level300 gear is enough if i not plaing to get RAID?

2. What do i do with unwanted Tombstone of poetic?

3. What do i do with binding gear and market prohibited gear?
* im not planing doing any crafting any soon
* i already max serpent seal capacity

4. is RAID have story related to main story line or past?
* for example, story about Bahamut calamity, the Ascians, the dragons, Hydaelyn.....
* i would like to know every bit of story if could, i start playing FFXIV because rumour said story is sooo gooood (its true) and i very glad i did it.

Your best bet will be to purchase materials and ask someone in your FC to craft the gear for you. i300 gear will not be sufficient for level 70 endgame, as there are pieces of content that you will go through that require an item level higher. i380, on the other hand, will last you into some of Shadowbringers’s 70+ content (probably until level 73, at the least).

2. What do i do with unwanted Tombstone of poetic?

If you plan to level any other jobs, Poetics are useful for buying both level 50 and level 60 gear for any other jobs you may want to level. When Shadowbringers releases, level 70 i360 and i390 gear will be purchasable with them.

If you do not plan to level any more jobs, then purchase Demicrystals when you cap and sell them to a vendor. You’ll get roughly 40,000 gil for 2,000 Poetics worth of Demicrystals.

3. What do i do with binding gear and market prohibited gear?
* im not planing doing any crafting any soon
* i already max serpent seal capacity

Sell them directly to a vendor for a small gain. If you have 100% spiritbond, you can Convert them into materia to sell. Any green, pink, or blue gear can be turned into your Grand Company for company seals (and FC credits).

The first 8-man raid (Binding Coil of Bahamut) does tie into the story following the Calamity that ended the original 1.0 game. It is probably the only one that will tie directly into the lore you experience repeatedly throughout the main story. Do note, however, that you will not be able to participate in this content in duty Finder, as it is considered to be ARR's version of a Savage raid. You will be able to put up Party Finders to unsync, or get 2-3 friends to take you through each Turn (13 in total, though you can skip Turn 3 as it gives you nothing in terms of reward or lore).

The Heavensward raid (Alexander) is not referenced much in the story, nor is the Stormblood raid (Omegascape). However, they both have stories of their own that are worth viewing if you really want to know them.

360 gear will get you to Shadowbringers since that's all that is required for Ghymlit Dark. You can get Ryumaku gear which is 360 for tomestones of mendacity, which are common endgame dungeon rewards and beastquests and hunts. scavean gear which is 390 is purchasable for tomestones of genesis....not as easy to get and weekly caps apply. But it depends on what you want to do. But 380 isn't required at all to get to Shadowbringers.

Ok, but lads, pay attention. They haven't even started Stormblood quests. OP, you really only need to keep gear on pace with the content you're doing. By the time you need level 70 gear, it's going to be a lot easier to get. You can probably already search the marketboard for cheap normal gear to upgrade from what you have now, but, again, you're still completing Heavensward quests, what you have for that is sufficient. Hells, if you buy Shadowbringers, you'll likely just as easily be able to find yourself some level 71 vendor gear letting you breeze through the rest of Stormblood (via marketboard or having someone in FC buy gear from new areas you can't quite access).

On the subject of gear and Poetics, you could also easily be spending those "unwanted" poetics on upgrading to i270 gear in Idyllshire. By the time you clear the base Stormblood MSQ, you'll probably be able to spend those poetics on upgrading to i400

1. It's not worth worrying about 380 gear at this point, because you're not doing any content that requires it! Your i255 gear will be fine for everything up to the start of Stormblood, and dungeons synch you down to a lower level anyway.

Buying Lv66/68 gear will be plenty to get you through all of Stormblood content, or It's likely that cheap Lv70-72 gear will be on sale once Shadowbringers releases, since a lot of people will already have stronger gear from Stormblood endgame.

You can also look at picking up a second class to share EXP so you don't get quite so overleveled. Otherwise you'll hit the limit and miss out on a lot of EXP from quests.



2. Other people have answered your question, but I just wanted to point out that they're not "tombstones" but tomestones, ie. "book-stones".

Functionally they seem to be like USB sticks.



4. The Lv50 Crystal Tower 24-man alliance raid is going to be important for the upcoming expansion story.

The Lv50 Binding Coil raid finishes off some aspects of ARR and has some character development for Alphinaud and Alisaie. They are particularly difficult gameplay-wise, and most people will play them unsynched to clear them. (Also, there are some long in-dungeon cutscenes like the Lv50 final dungeons, so it's a good idea to play with a party who won't mind waiting for you to watch them.)

1. Yeah, ill re-up that you should be able to safely ignore the i380 level. While you could get there with some help, it wont be necessary. The gear you have is good for another 5-6 levels of story. And by the time youve gotten that far...

2. So you arent quite there yet, but the story is going to send you to the "end-game hub" for the HW expansion fairly soon. In Idyllshire you should be able to find an NPC(you might have to finish the main HW story first) who sells gear for Poetics at ilvl 260 which is upgradable to 270(also for Poetics - this gear level starts to show its limits around level 65). Once ShB drops, the NPC in the hub area for SB should have the level 70 versions for Poetics too. So youll be able to get some upgrades with your tomes. And in the meantime, turn some of them into cash. Demicrystals or gardening soil(grade 3 thanalan) are good bets.

3. Any at 100% spiritbond you should for sure convert to materia(to use or sell). Any colors just turn them into seals, and the whites become pocket change. If youre full on serpent seals then spend some. Get a few hundred ventures, find some crafting mats to sell, pick up the chocobo bardings. No point being capped on a currency.

4. As others have said, the level 50 raids bear some meaning on the overall main story. The 8 man raid closes some of the calamity storyline very nicely. The alliance(24 man) raid appears to be linked in the story to the upcoming expansion(details have yet to become fully clear). The other raids, so far, are mostly filling in side-story and lore rather then being tied to the mainline. The 8 man raids for both expansions resolve the stories for powerful beings in the FF universe(Alexander and Omega). The alliance raid for HW adds details to the war of the mages and some other FF14 backstory. The alliance raid for SB is a bit about the history of a region, a bit about how the garleans see themselves in the world, and a lot of fan service for those who played the Ivalice games(FF 12 and Tactics mostly).

1.Save your gil get the mats and ask a FC mate to make the item honestly all you really need is the weapon , need about 3-4 million gil to get a house when available so yeah save up.
2.Always always save poetics they become useful later on always, they can get pets orchestration rolls etc etc.

3.If you got crafting up you can always desynth the gear, theres also the doman enclave that you can donate the items too eventually that nets you and achievment. You'll also occassionaly find quests that will eat your seals up like pez (Relic Weapon Quests Such as the Zodiac and Anima for instance can take about 80K seals for everything you need)

4.I absolutely recommend you do Binding Coil of Bahamut if you want to get tie ins and a deeper understanding of Bahamut and the Allagans, The ARR 24 mans are fun and give a bit more insight as to how the Allagans fell from power, Alexander raids arent as powerful storytelling wise but are overall enjoyable little tidbits of lore, the ivalice raids take you back to a long long time ago in a part of this world. and Omega raid isnt as good storywise but is a fun series nonetheless.

Just want to point out that, if OP does reach Stormblood content before the expansion drops, they will need better than i300 gear. It is all dependent on the pace at which they are going. If they want to stick with just i360 Mendacity gear, fine, but it won't last them nearly as long into Shadowbringers as i380 will.

The thing is that it's inefficient to be buying i380 gear now.

They have a while to go before they need it, can pick up other gear from SB quests in the meanwhile, and in a month's time there'll be gear of at least that level being sold on the marketboard as everyone tries to offload the Lv70-74 gear they get from quests but is weaker than the Scaevan gear they already have.

Eh, I disagree. Because you can upgrade it to i390 and it will last a couple levels. Which is what I did for my alt since I don’t want to grind out Genesis on her. i390 Scaevan/i390 Augmented crafted will last just as long as the i260 Shire gear did—until roughly level 73/74 when you replace it with second dungeon gear/crafted stuff from the MSQ, which is enough for me to make it worth it.
