It... completely is the same thing. You're being nitpicky for the sake of it.
    No, it really isn't.

Normally when tomes get retired, the gear that's on them becomes obtainable through a totally different method, usually hunt seals. They don't just get shifted down to poetics. They also don't usually retire both the current uncapped and capped tomestone at the same time and move BOTH of their stuff down to poetics.

Whether you are capable of recognizing it or not, there has been only one previous point in time that they did this, and that was the release of Stormblood when they retired both lore and scripture. This did not occur at the release of Heavensward, because poetics were kept in the game and are still there to this day. 5.0 will mark the second time this occurs.

Trying to suggest that this happens "every time" despite it only happening once before deserves to be "nitpicked", because basic mathematics would tell you that a single instance of something occurring isn't enough to establish a pattern.

    They did do it twice.
    1. With the release of 3.0, everything purchasable with Allagan tomestones of soldiery and Allagan tomestones of poetics was changed to be purchasable with Allagan tomestones of poetics.
      • Quests that rewarded Allagan tomestones of soldiery will now reward Allagan tomestones of poetics.
      • Timeworn maps that rewarded Allagan tomestones of soldiery will now reward Allagan tomestones of poetics.
      • 120 Allagan tomestones of soldiery -> 120 Allagan tomestones of poetics
      • [2.0] The first time completion bonus has been adjusted as follows: The type of Allagan tomestones received for first time completion has been changed. Players will now receive Allagan tomestones of poetics.
      • The items required to create and upgrade Zodiac Weapons must now be purchased using Allagan tomestones of poetics instead of Allagan tomestones of soldiery.
      • beast tribe daily quests ... that rewarded Allagan tomestones of soldiery will now reward Allagan tomestones of poetics.
      • Timeworn maps that rewarded Allagan tomestones of soldiery will now reward Allagan tomestones of poetics.
    2. With the release of 4.0, everything purchasable with Allagan tomestones of lore and Allagan tomestones of scripture was changed to be purchasable with Allagan tomestones of poetics. Since this is not in dispute I'll not bother quoting.

They have demonstrated they are unwilling to have more than four tomestones. Since they need one weekly capped tomestone for the current expansion, one uncapped tomestone for the current expansion and one tomestone that's unobtainable so you have chance to convert it before it's deleted, that leaves poetics as the only option. They could change their strategy with tomestones but there is no evidence of an intention to do so and Yoshi has said in interviews he is happy with keeping poetics for now. To make everything purchasable with genesis you would have to go back and modify two expansions worth of content, when you could just modify one (stormblood) to be purchasable with poetics.

That's only the case for the first two tomestones in an expansion.

In 3.0, gear from the first two tomestones, law and esoterics, were shifted to hunt seals. Gear from lore and scripture remained purchasable with tomestones.

In 4.0, gear from the first two tomestones, verity and creation, were shifted to hunt seals. Gear from creation, mendacity and genesis remain purchasable with tomestones.

Obviously creation gear will no longer be available through tomestones come 5.0.

Dial back on the snarky writing. If you want to get your point across, insulting a person's intelligence is not going to get people to agree with you.

With that said, you do have a point that the first set of tomes are usually relegated to hunt seals, but that doesn't change the fact that tome currency is constantly removed and replaced as time goes on.
