Before i buy Shadowbringers...

Hello,

i'm new here and have some - probably stupid questions.

Iwas playing FFXIV few times. At the very beginning, before Realm Reborn, then i've played some ARR beta and now i trying again, with this 7 day free trial, mostly because i'm interested in Matsuno's rides. So i'm planing to get Shadowbringer and start the game from scratch. And my to my questions.

Now i'm skipping most of dialogues, trying classes but i know i want to start from scratch. If i create Viera can i be able to play all storyline (ARR, HW, SB), or there will be some limitations?

I know this is MMO, but i wonder how much main story quest can i get through alone?

Hi

You can do the MSQ alone, no problem. You don't need a partner for any of it (even thought it can help, it isn't mandatory). The dungeons required in the MSQ will pair you automatically with other players thought, you can't do them alone.

As for the Viera, you will be able to create a character (or change your current one) with that race from the beginning and experience all the expansions with it. Same went for the Au Ra ; when it came out with Heavensward, people who bought the expansion could start a new game with an Au Ra if they wanted.

As Dark said, once the expansion unlocks youll be able to start over as a Viera and play the game from start to finish with that race.

As for the solo question, that one is a bit trickier to answer right now. So the MSQ contains four types of content. First you have normal quests. Run around, talk to some people, maybe kill some overworld mobs. This is 100% soloable(someone could help with overworld targets, but they tend to be weak anyway). Second you have some solo instances. By definition, this is solo content. You spawn into a special instance of some area alone(typically with some helper NPCs, but not always) and have an objective to complete. No one can help once you get inside, even if you wanted them to. The third type of content is the instanced dungeon, and the fourth type is the instanced trial. This is where the game will ask you to team up with other players to clear a dungeon or a particular hard "boss" fight. If you greatly outlevel one of these, you can attempt to do it solo. But at level, going in alone is a surefire loss. The game allows you to go with friends into these instances, and also has a matchmaking system to pair you up with other random players who can help.

As for why i said that was tricky to answer, one of the talked about features for the upcoming expansion is the "Trust System" wherein you can recruit NPCs to help with some MSQ elements to go in solo(or with a group that isnt filled). Based on the interviews ive seen, the Trust system might only be in place for the newest content. Or it might start that way, but it gets expanded later. Or i might have read a bad translation of an interview and the facts got garbled. We'll know for sure in the next couple weeks.
