Square Enix Chat hours were supposed to be extended starting today for shadowbringers. Tried to contact them with a question but was informed that they were running under normal hours. What gives
maybe someone can answer this question for me. I preordered Shadowbringers for the PS4 with the physical disc. Will I need to have that disc on hand in order to load the client for Early access on the 28th?

For what it's worth, this seems to be the instruction to join:

Enter the pre-order code that you received from your retailer on the Shadowbringers pre-order website to get your early access code (12-digits XXXX-XXXX-XXXX format).
Sign in to the PlayStation™Network with the account for PlayStation™Network that you use to play FINAL FANTASY XIV.
Select the "PlayStation®Store."
Select "Redeem Codes" from the bottom of the left-side option menu.
Enter the pre-order bonus code in the field that appears.
Confirm that the promotion code matches the product you wish you register. Once Early Access has begun, continue with the following steps upon launching FFXIV.
Launch FINAL FANTASY XIV and follow the instructions that appear.
You will see "FINAL FANTASY XIV: Shadowbringers - Pre-Order PlayStation®4." Select "Next."
You will see the service account onto which you can register the pre-order code. Select "Next" to complete the registration process. If you possess multiple service accounts, you will see all of the service accounts that you can register the code to. Please confirm the appropriate service account by verifying that the service account has the character names and Worlds that you want to send the bonus items to. Please be careful as your bonuses will not be received on your desired service account if you select the wrong service account.

How to Confirm Pre-order Bonuses
Visit the “Settings” menu of the PS4, then select “PlayStation Network/Account Management,” then “Account Information.” Scroll down and select “Services List,” and find “FINAL FANTASY® XIV: A Realm Reborn™.” Selecting it will show an entry labeled either “FINAL FANTASY XIV: Shadowbringers Early Access” or “FINAL FANTASY XIV: Shadowbringers Pre-Order.” This will also grant you the in-game bonus items at release. Registration information will be reflected on the FINAL FANTASY XIV: Mog Station after launching the game for the first time after Early Access has begun.

Shadowbringers is downloaded automatically once Early Access starts. Please refer to this article to view the requirement to access Shadowbringers content.
You will be able to register your full game registration code starting on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

All that was done but I have never known SONY to follow those exact procedures with anything but a Digital Download purchase. Guess we will find out Friday.

Since I'm playing on PC I can only guess at how it works with the Ps4 (so sorry if this turns out to be unhelpful and/or wrong), but as far as I'm aware you wont need the physical disc for early access. You should have gotten a pre-order code via e-mail and if you've entered that and have your account flagged for early access on the mogstation, you'll be able to download and play Shadowbringers on the 28th.
You'll then have to enter the code that comes with the physical disc after early access is over to be able to keep playing the game.

I'm pretty sure that when I got the physical CE for HW I didnt even needed the disc at all, since theres nothing on it except for the launcher and you download everything anyways - at least thats the case for PC, but I'd imagine the Ps4 not being different considering how much data a disc can hold and how much data the game needs, so... you should be fine and able to play the game during early access as long as you entered the code on the mogstation.

hope you are right. I have entered all the codes and being shown as eligible for Early Access on the Mog Station. Would like official clarification from SE though which is why I tried to use Chat.

If you've been playing and received the pre-order bonuses, your account is flagged for 5.0 content on 28 June.

The entire game will be upgraded to ShadowBringers code on the 27th (that full day of maintenance), and your client should get updated on the 28th after maintenance ends. Everyone will have access to the game changes that affect job skills -- it has to be that way, since the skills are changing for every level of player.

I play it on PS4. No. You do not need the disc, ever. The disc is irrelavent. What you really need is the code inside for when it arrives as it is meant to add the actual game to your account. You won't need it for Early Access though so you are fine.

Edit: to add. It is irrelevant for existing players as all it holds is the in-game launcher we already have.
