    Hi Everyone ^^’ just some thoughts on healers

    So I have some thoughts floating around my head due to there being talk about removing role actions from the game(like protect, lucid dreaming, cleric stance, etc). So this leaves some room for jobs to get their own niche. White Mage is lack luster in end game content because they don’t bring anything(mostly) but raw heal to the table. I have read some other posts on here and some suggesting they get certain abilities that they have had in passed games(like Reflect and Shell and whatnot). Protect was also a White Mage skill before FFXIV. I just wanted to hear some thoughts on what kind of abilities and spells White Mage, Scholar, and Astrologian would get if role actions were removed and each job had to get its own set of abilities to make up for those lost.(this will be especially neat for AST since this is the first game the job is in. I guess it’s essentially time mage but I haven’t played time mage in any other game so ^^’)

    They're not removing role actions from the game. What's changing is that you won't have to slot them after learning them. They just become available automatically. All the jobs in a role will still have access to an identical set of role actions.

    Role skills are not going away. They have instead been made into a non-customization system with a select number of skills for each role that are acquired at various levels. I believe the number for healers is five, so you can expect each healer to have these in their kits. However, I have no idea what skills these are going to be. If Rescue is still around, you can expect it to be one of the role skills for healers.

    I also want to point out that giving a healer a niche doesn't necessarily all come from different abilities. Abilities that do the same thing still give each healer their own flavor when given a different animation and name. Esuna/Leeches/Exalted Detriment is a great example of this.

    I will always point out that giving each healer its own true niche comes from creating strengths and weaknesses for each healer. Each healer basically needs to be able to do something another healer cannot. However, this pro/con relationship they have with each other doesn't hinder their ability to do solo or 4-man content. There are only so many ways we can heal so diversity for healers comes via their personal and raid utility, and to a lower extent, DPS kits.

    As an example one healer has an AoE ability to lower MP costs, another has an AoE ability that adds a stronger MP regen, the next just flat out restores 8% MP to all players. These are all useful on their own, and any combination of the two would be welcome for a savage set up. Nobody's toes are stepped on, but this is a pretty box with a bow version of ability distribution.

    The meta favors damage over everything else, and whichever healer brings it solidifies its spot in the meta set up. The devs either have to give it to all the healers in some shape or form, or not at all. With that said our healers would need DMG up, Crit up, Speed up, DHR up, DEF down (on mob), VUL up (on mob) as some examples. This is fine. Just don't give two healers the ability to do all of it, and other healers no ability to do any of it. I feel they are over complicating things over there at SE.

    Thank you much. I didn’t realize that’s what the change was. And that’s a lot to think about. I’m still a little new to the game. I have all three healers to 70 but I’ve only been playing since October(which isn’t long compared to most). That makes a lot of sense what you’re saying though. I feel like tanks are more balanced in that regard. From what I can see anyways.
