I find the dance partner concept really interesting for a lot of the reasons that have already been brought up. It is a bit of a conundrum as to which player the DNC picks. I am not sure why NIN or BLM would even be candidates considering NINs will spend a good portion of time using mudras and BLM has no weaponskills to feed back over to the DNC, but I am going off of very limited information, and I ignore leaks.

I don't mess around with parsers, but outside a static group, exactly what guarantees lie in place for a DNC who does use them? If parsers give information over time so you can select a better dance partner, this is going to be ascertained through combat as well, just not to a numbers extent. However those of you who have been playing for a while, I know you can tell who is struggling and who is performing well without parsers. That first selection though in a PUG, no matter who it is, will be a shot in the dark.

Regardless of how well the job plays and future adjustments, what I know for certain is SE is not going to add/allow parsers so DNCs can determine the right partner. Whatever strategies are baking up in the ovens right now and in the future are going to have to be made without that ingredient.

This is why i've been sorting things out into opener, sustained and burst partners because there may be more optimal partners during certain points of the fight.

This is based on SB and trailer

Openers - Brd/mch/nin would be good picks due to having a decent amount of weaponskills front loaded at the beginning and require little setup if at all

Sustained - mnk/sam/nin just due to their high dps or speed

Burst - this is the tricky one another jobs burst with the buff would have to be worthwhile for 2 dances of downtime from dnc as you would want to go back to the best sustained dps when you can this leaves few jobs that seem worthwhile to do sam/blm/brd why is blm here well it seems like its burst could be very potent but only time will tell if its potent enough for loss of fan stacks as well.

Nin may seem like a bad dance partner with its ninjutsus but its speed at being able to do weaponskills is why its considered and its why i think dnc/mnk is the best pairing for sustained dps due to GL4, sam makes for a better partner than nin due to nin's ninjutsus though and speed is the reason drg is not considered for any spot atm

Because people are speculating about things that haven't been officially released, and many aren't looking at the leaks. Which in a few hours everyone will be able to see what the media tour got and tell what is real and what is fake.

Some thoughts now that the NDA is lifted.

Magic pairing with dances sounds like a big change at first but all it does it open up the option to partner a caster during their burst, CPM on casters (especially once you exclude abilities) is generally much lower in terms of sustained damage I feel like we'll be partnering MNK or NIN.

I'm interested in alternate comps as well - my own group will likely have me on DNC as well as a BRD. Partnering him might be wise but I understand for now at least we're still in the mindset of 2melee/1ranged/1caster. BRD seems like it's going to be a quick job, could defintely be on the table especially whenever I line up with Raging.

I'm concerned overall - at this point it feels like DNC is definitely going to become the BRD of ShB... in every group all the time. I don't enjoy mandatory jobs and despite BRD somehow (unjustly) evading nerfs all throughout SB that doesn't mean DNC will be able to do the same and SE can be very heavy handed sometimes. I don't want to go from mandatory to excluded. I'm aware this is all entirely speculation but it's what's on my mind.

Overall I'm still excited, I hope not too much changes between now and ShB launch but if they brought down our potencies a bit or the potency of our buffs I wouldn't be too mad. It's going to be a fun job I just hope the community doesn't mess it up too much.

my grp is going ?/dnc/mch/smn for dps the ? is someone who is either going mnk or hlr so we may have a replacement needed there but if not then mnk then mch might be best for me then if smn burst is high enough they may get it instead, so 2 physical range won't be much a problem the only thing you have to be wary of is the defense buff as they can't stack
