What we see is what we get in the benchmark. They aren't withholding customization options from us. That has never been the case in previous benchmarks and they would have noted something in the lodestone post about it otherwise.

The only thing that makes me think the benchmark is just "the best of what they have at the moment" is how the Viera hairstyles are displayed. They were supposed to have a toggle to hide/show bangs, but currently each option is just shown as a separate style. The right-click/toggle doesn't seem to really do anything at the moment.
Also, I really hope that the Viera /laugh emote is just using a placeholder for the time being. They don't currently open their mouths when they laugh D:
This is really odd. You would think if hairstyles would be an issue with these races, they would have mentioned it back at the JP fan fest when the mentioned the glasses and head pieces.
I'm like, 90% sure that we'll get more options at launch and that the anti-hrothgar squad are just using this an excuse to say something along the lines of "I can't believe we lost Male Viera for this!". I can't speak for everyone, but I personally liked the Hrothgar stuff even if the hair options they gave us were a bit limiting.
So I guess in short, huzzah for optimism!

Viera will likely get access to existing cross race hairstyles at launch. Hrothgar on the other hand probably won't. There's not even a "Hairstyle" option for them. Either for technical or lore reasons, their "hairstyle" is the fur pattern which has a range of colors and highlights attached to it. Maybe they'll add more fur patterns in the future though since that looks like what hairstyles were traded off for.

Considering the rush that they've been through with the new races, I'm sure that Viera will eventually get the rest of the hairstyles unlocked (similarly to the headgear). If not at launch, then shortly after.
Hrothgar on the other hand... I don't know how they're going to deal with them. I mean, we often get new haistyles, so what will happen with our furry friends? As has been said already, their haistyles are tied to the faces, so will they just get new fur patterns? Honestly, I have no idea about what they're going to do to not be unfair towards that race. Hopefully they'll mention something during the next live letter.

People enjoy freaking out before actually seeing the finished product. Like with the Hrothgar reveal. The trailer didn't do them justice at all but what we see now looks so much better than even then. I have faith that SE will have far more options upon release, but even if they don't I'll still change. The new races are perfect in aesthetic, in my opinion.Honestly guessing that they will be working on the new races all the way until launch, they already had to delay the benchmark so chances are that they still just aren't finished and released what they /did/ have done for people to play around with.
I shouldn't be surprised by there being multiple threads already with people panicking/raging/disappointed I suppose.. but... *sighs*![]()

It's one thing to not see much choice in hairstyles. You can say it's simply a preview of an unfinished product, because that is possible. It's another thing altogether to see hairstyles tied to faces.
Au ra horns are tied to faces. If you want to change your horns you must also change your face, which means you need a fantasia. Hrothgar hair works the same way. Will we need a fantasia to change hrothgar hair? Does this also mean that we will be stuck with just those hairstyles? This isn't a case of freaking over nothing. This is a genuine concern given we know how au ra horns are treated, and how hairstyles have been treated up to now.

The fact that the Hrothgar hair is also specifically tied to the facial features (additional - specific - options for the hair) of each face tells me the hair is tied to each specific face.People enjoy freaking out before actually seeing the finished product. Also, what would be the point of having two of each face, when the only variation is the hair?
Instead of a limited job we got limited hair. It's almost like full hair! It's one thing to not see much choice in hairstyles. You can say it's simply a preview of an unfinished product, because that is possible. It's another thing altogether to see hairstyles tied to faces.

Absolutely not going Hrothgar because of the hair being tied to the face. May not go Viera either if they don't get the other hair styles I've collected over the years either. I don't remember Au'Ra having these problems either.
