It depends. Some will just use Tank Stance 24/7 (With a few never actually ever swapping out of it, no matter how comfortable they may be).

However others will either read online or be told by people in game that "Tanks should be in DPS Stance" and will try to use it before they're capable of doing so.

This leads to them having conflicting information, where their gameplay is telling them they should be using Tank Stance because they need it to survive and/or generate enmity (Even more so if there's some DPS who's overgeared and too stupid to use Diversion in their party) while other people are telling them to use DPS Stance.

It's the same problem that Healers get too. New healers (Also healers doing Dungeons while leveling and gearing) will have to use GCD heals such as Cure II/Physick/Benefic II to keep people alive. But then they read online and get told by other people in game that Healers only use oGCD's and spend the rest of their time DPSing.

Basically, people parroting out of context gameplay ideals leads to new players getting confused, thus they shy away from Tank/Healer roles.
