Race Naming Conventions for Viera and Hrothgar

It seems like the Viera conventions were set up so that people could keep their old character names if they fantasia...but they make little sense for those who create a new Viera or want a Viera sounding name. If all PCs are adventurers that left the forest, the generator giving only traditional names is puzzling.

Kinda funny to think that Z’oemi Tia is a perfectly valid female Viera name though lol

It should be noted it says in practice one will RARELY see a Viera who uses their "forest" name, which still leaves the option open for players to use them. They basically made it so players who don't/couldn't name change but were able to go Viera are still "lore friendly" while those who made new ones with the name generator or after reading this wanted to use forest names it would also still be lore friendly.

I would really like to see how the other races are named in Ivalice, because Fran doesn't seem like it fits any naming conventions we have.

Depends if it's short for something like Francesca, which would presumably be perfectly inline with Dalmascan naming.

They really killed Hrothgar for me with this weird watering down of their lore and naming conventions. They don’t even have Ronso as a potential surname. If only they supplied us with a Fantasia and name change voucher to fix the failure they set us up for. RIP my $20 to go back to what I had. :/

This is likely because the race name for Hrothgar on the first is "Ronso", so it wouldn't make sense to include it as a possible surname for use on either the First or the Source.

Personally I disagree entirely. Hrothgar specifically take thgar in their naming conventions and Ronso is a classic FF surname for the Ronso... they chose to go down a path of least resistance and watered down both clans into a single race/clan with uninspired Slavic naming conventions.

Actually that's not watering them down. That's making the specifics on how their clans work complex enough to where scholars outside of the race don't completely understand how it works. It's far more likely they're setting things up for the race to take the center lead for the next expansion (if at least for an area like how AuRa took front and center for Azim Steppe), meaning we're going to get more in-depth talk on how everything works there (if not beforehand).

A lot of people in here seem to have missed the fact that there are names in the Viera randomizer pool that clearly aren't forest names. About half of them don't follow the "Icelandic-sounding" rule. All the surnames are birthplaces, yes, but some of the forenames are uh...different. Examples: Aluette, Rachine, Zelfie. Those strike me as being much more Elezen in nature.

Soooo... basically what I got out of those viera conventions was "It's whatever. Pick a lore name or not. We don't care." lol. Since they were so vague I'm going to cheerfully keep my viera's name and make up my own lore for her and her name. It's obviously not worth the effort of them putting any detailed thought into it so I'll create my own.
