    Eorzean Religion: The Twelve

Sort of lore, sort of characterization question for players who like coming up with their own interpretation on the Warrior of Light.

At the beginning of the game we get to pick which of the Twelve is our WoL's guardian. It never really comes up in the story we're shown, but it's there. I'm curious if anyone actually has ideas about their WoL having faith and what that looks like for them? Particularly if the deity isn't patron to a particular city that we see.

Also curious if anyone has thoughts about what worship looks like city-to-city in some detail. To me Ul'dah's religion makes the most intuitive sense with the worship of Nald'Thal in the sense that I can readily see how that weaves into different aspects of life and culture there. Same goes for Ishgard and Halone. Nophica in Gridania feels way less present to me compared to the Elementals and Llymlaen as far as I've seen barely comes up in Limsa Lominsa.

Just open invitation to share thoughts here. Frankly even if there isn't as much canon given for a particular god it would still be cool to hear how different folks would spin them left to their own devices.

It doesn't seem like there's much of an actual religion centered around the Twelve. Outside of Ishgard and Halone there's no real evidence that people worship them in the traditional way. They're treated more like guardian deities. You ask Nophica for a good harvest, but there doesn't seems to be any specific ceremony or clergy involved.

I'm a little unsure there haha, they do have a bunch of temples in/around Ul'dah plus Sanctum of the Twelve in the Black Shroud. Black Mage references Nald'Thal a ton and the culture in Ul'dah has loads to reference concepts of life and death, exchange and trying to strike the best bargain possible. The Church of Saint Adama is off in Eastern Thanalan as well and seems to be built around honoring the dead along with protecting the living. Also concepts of charity. Gridania references the Elementals near constantly with tremendous reverence and they play a huge role in shaping lifestyle.

The player doesn't get insight to serious holidays as much, but I mean in terms of spirituality and culture stuff's there. It just comes up in different ways place to place. To me whole thing feels sort of iceberg effect in the sense that it's around but we only get to see the surface of it while adventuring across Hydaelyn. Plus I mean the Twelve get invoked a ton and even if you just watch the scene surrounding Louisoix's attempt to contain Bahamut we can see that formal prayer exists.

It's certainly present enough to piss off Gaius van Baelsar at least lol.
