Plus you started out by saying you were quitting the game and you take issue with people telling you good luck and that they hope you find another game you enjoy?
Besides he'S factually wrong. Best designed MMO is obviously GW2.
GW2 didn't impressed me that much to be honest and wasn't expecting too much of it when it was advised to me.
But contrary to OP when personally don't enjoy one MMO I don't tend to go on that MMO foruns in strange rants on why I don't like the design and why all should quit it or why they should gimme mah money back.

The story is good and yes. If someone joins a story based MMO and get upset about the story. Well they just made a terrible decision getting in to the game then.I feel for you, and you'll have a better response (maybe) from the subreddit as they aren't quite as die-hard about the whole "THIS IS A STORY DRIVEN MMO, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT??!" bs. It's an MMO, with a forced story. That's it. It's truly a shame that they ham fist it down your throat as it does turn away people (like yourself).
I skip the story myself, and I would say that if you can get past the obscene amount of MSQ items, you may find things you enjoy on the other side. Perhaps just take a break from the slog and come back to it to see if you feel any different. Just prepare yourself for a lot more of the same, at least until you're caught up on the MSQ.
this is incorrect. He says how they handle the story is bad. Ffxiv story is more like a visual novel with less choices and more busywork than a classic jrpg. His complaint was not that story existed, but how its incorporated.
And to be honest, a lot of that is not the way people who have been around for its release experienced it. When ARR first dropped there was more need to play the game between story missions. You had less strong sources of exp and less exp buffs. You had cross actions, and so usually tried more classes per level range. Post arr, you got the story in chunks, seperated by weeks of gameplay between the story.
there are reasons to critique how this story comes across for a new player, and its balance between non interactive scenes and gameplay.
It has all to do with "story-driven".
Different game, different target audience.
Just because guys like him don't enjoy it doesn't mean everyone has the same opinion.
The biggest point of Final Fantasy as a series has always been the story. So it should be no real surprise that Final Fantasy XIV is also a game with a heavy load of story.

FFXIV may not have a particularity toxic community, but this thread shows how elitist it is.
I think SWTOR has the best design in terms of delivering a story...hard to out-flex those fully-voiced muscles. Even freaking sidequest conversations are voiced with your characters actively taking part in them. It's just without contest imo.
