Catching up on the main story?

I have a LOT of main story to get caught up on, what I wanted to ask is this:

Should I bother doing it now, or could I just do it on gunbreaker/dancer? I don't believe these are locked behind the story but I was wondering others opinions on it.

I am to hyped about Gunbreaker so I'm not really getting into any other jobs right now. Would I miss a lot of the experience of a xpack launch (I was there for SB launch) or might it better to do the story on Gunbreaker so I can avoid the mass of initial players?

How much is alot? Honestly most MSQ is irrelevant to class, so I'd get it done.

I havent really played since.... I think its called Delstascape was released? What I mean't was is there any reason I should do it now compared to waiting and doing it on Gunbreaker/dancer?

I'd guess that depends on what zone those classes are picked up in....assuming you have a job at the appropriate level to pick it up on the character you want to play. Have they announced where the classes start?

You will be at most level 60 it sounds like...but that didn't stop them from putting HW classes in foundation starting at 30.

Deltascape was released about 2 weeks after Stormblood went live. If you were current then(if not then i would need more info to gauge how far back you really are), that would mean that the fight at the Royal Menagerie was the last thing you did in the MSQ. The 4.x patchline MSQ isnt super long(probly 25-40 quests total). Over the course of those youd have to do like 3 dungeons, one trial, and 6-10 solo instances - plus gearing up enough to take on the higher end of that content. That is certainly something that could be completed(easily) in the next month before the expack goes live. I believe it was announced that the new classes would start in ARR territory like the SB ones did(limsa i think). If you immediately unlock and start working on gun/dance youll be behind on the story(only a big deal if you care/want to avoid spoilers), but instead caught up in the wave of all the people trying to power-level the new hotness to catch up. Seeing as the story you havent completed yet all starts at level 70, while the jobs will be starting at 60, i dont see those extra quests giving you much of an advantage.

Now granted I got there a lot later (I started HW when Stormblood launched) but getting through the trials at the end of 3.0 -> 4.0 was the toughest part. Granted there is only 1 trial between 4.0 and 5.0 and being a tank might make it easier but it's minimal XP you'd be losing by doing it now and you're just swapping the mass of players doing the new content for the mass of players playing GB or DNC.
