OP demands respect and courtesy while giving none.

Speaking for normal mode Sure I read guides while I'm in a 15 min dps queue. I do that for my own benefit no one else's. I surely do not expect others to. Hell some folks like to go in blind for the added challenge. Or Maybe they can't stand youboob. What ever the reasons I hardly think of it as some kind of discourtesy.

You talk about the value of time. Well all the time wasted from everyone griping back and forth could have been used to briefly explain the fight and finish the run.

The "wasted time" excuse cracks me up every time.
It's a video game. By it's definition it's a waste of time cause we sure as hell ain't doing anything productive.

The issue with this is, being a team orientated game, any challenge you impose on yourself also affects your teammates. Especially as a support role.

There's also a multitude of text guides which tend to remain spoiler free.

I mentioned it before, but if someone jumps into old content blind and ends up being a burden to the group, they'll get treated accordingly. I won't support their laziness.

Time is the most valuable resource one can spend. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be efficient, even in a video game.

If time is this valuable in a videogame genre dedicated to spending it, maybe you should advocate for all non Ex/Savage content to be able to be run with Trusts in 5.0. Or find a genre that's not deliberately designed around spending time.

It's a team oriented game, part of that is giving a quick "watch out for this" to someone. And if they can't, a guide they look up prior to the run and spend 10 to 15 minutes on won't help them succeed.

Barring things like PF groups that lay out their expectations in the description, or Ex/Savage/Ultimate fights (since, generally, if someone's going to do those blind they'll have likeminded players doing it with them).

Dunno, I still find it pretty ridiculous people think others should go watch guides for content that requires the bare minimum effort to explain. And even then, does anyone remember the Mr. Happy Guide for Rabanastre that had people messing up the sword mechanic? No? The one that told them to drop them in the corners, even when DF chooses to stack them middle? Or how about the adds he mentions to separate and kill, instead of bunching up together to AoE them?

There's some irony here. You say time is a valuable resource, yet advocate that people "waste" their time watching/reading a guide instead of playing the game to save YOU some time with possibly a faster dungeon run. Some people have limited play time, and if they have an hour or two they want it to be an hour or two playing the game, not on google or youtube reading about the game they would prefer to play rather than watching others do it.

The other aspect has been mentioned a lot, there is a lot of fun experiencing things unspoiled. You get surprised by the design of the dungeon, of the mobs and the boss. Seeing mechanics fresh with being spoiled is gives you those "oh shit" moments that makes the experience so much fun and exciting.

That being said, I do understand the frustration it can cause people who have done these dozens of times. It's one of those things where someone's experience is affected in a negative manner, and there's no perfect solution.

I go into content blind with friends who are also going in blind, because I don't like being a burden to the team unless everyone is on the same page. It's called being considerate.

Your solution of PF is available for people who wish to challenge themselves too.

Because that basically never happens. Basically no one in this game is willing to admit or own up to mistakes or mention that they're new to a fight. They will just wipe a group in silence multiple times and no one can say anything because the ToS will clock you.

Giving advice on fights? That's unsolicited advice, you will get your head ripped off 9 times out of 10 for that too. And possibly reported.

If the content is old (note I said "old content" in my previous post), I think you should at least glance over a text guide for 2 mins before jumping in.

Expecting a play-by-play at the arena entrance to the boss is just lazy imo.

I'm saying there's nothing wrong with glancing over a text guide for 2 mins before jumping into old content. Not asking people to write a dissertation.

Also, I never advocated using video guides. I don't really advocate using them at all; they are rarely done with the communities best interests in mind, instead thrown out as soon as possible to garner clicks and likes.

One needs only to look towards the travesty that is Alphascape savage guides this tier, where guide creators implement progression strategies in there, and we get stuck with dumb strats like dps in... But I digress.

There's nothing wrong with this when everyone is on the same page. I just think its a bit inconsiderate otherwise.

The only fun I have in instanced content is the challenge of learning the boss fights on the fly; watching videos would effectively remove any incentive I had of ever doing the content in the first place outside of getting any related quests done - I won't do it.

Besides, the newer content tends to have better telegraphed mechanics - some of the older dungeons might have an obscure objective that isn't obvious and might be worth mentioning but otherwise...

I watch the guides, but honestly they do not help me much I have never learned by watching, I learn by doing. :/

I also think watching guides ruins the "new experience" of the content, some.

I'm not really surprised that people defend laziness in this thread.

Yeah, it really sucks that there are players out there that would rather lazily deflect questions asking for help with dungeon mechanics instead of taking 10~15 seconds to actually answer them.
