What is Your Zodiac Based Guardian Deity?

One day while I was in character creation, I began thinking about what Guardian Deities represent which Zodiac Signs. Eventually, after much researching, these are the conclusions I've made.

To start, the 12 Zodiac Signs are categorized by what element they align with. There are only 4 elements in total, Earth, Water, Wind and Fire and 3 of the Zodiac Signs align with one of these elements. In addition, each element has favorability with another element. For example, Earth Signs favor Water Signs and Vice Versa while Wind Signs favor Fire Signs and again Vice Versa. Taking this into consideration and the fact that the game has 6 elements and not 4, it can be concluded that not only for obvious reasons will there be 2 Zodiac Signs per element but also that 3 of the elements of the game will have favorability with each other. Seeming as Earth and Water favor each other and Ice is right in between them, The Zodiac Signs of Earth and Water will fit into these 3 elements while the same can be said for Fire and Wind Zodiac Signs fitting into Wind, Lightning and Fire elements.

Below are the Zodiac Signs and the Deity's they align with.

(Water) Thaliak - Pisces Rivers/Knowladege

(Water) Nymeia - Virgo Fate/Prophecy

(Wind) Llymlaen - Aquarius Oceans/Navigation

(Wind) Oschon - Sagittarius Freedom/Exploration

(Lightning) Byregot - Libra Artistry/Architecture

(Lightning) Rhalgar - Aries Rage/Destruction

(Fire) Azeyma - Leo Sun/Inquiry

(Fire) Nald'Thal - Gemini Afterlife/Commerce

(Earth) Nophica - Taurus Nature/Abundance

(Earth) Althyk - Capricorn Time/Adaptability


In addition to following the 4 elements and what element they aligned with, I also looked at each of the Zodiacs ruling planets and their personality traits to help me decide on what Deity suits them. Gemini and Virgo, for example, are both ruled by the planet Mercury, the messenger god. As a result, Communication is key for these signs. Gemini represents Commerce and Trade while Nald'Thal Represents Commerce and the Afterlife, which if you think of it goes hand in hand within the walls of Ul'Dahnian Temples. Virgo, the other hand is all about Translation and Observation, knowing what natures signs and signals mean is her specialty. It's no wonder then why Ishgardian scholars and Gridanian botanists observe the stars in the night sky in an attempt to translate their meaning, Virgo and by extension, Nymiea spun them.

As for an example on Personality, Scorpio's traits are that of Strong Leadership, Heroism, and Righteousness but also Vengence, Competition, and Control. All of which are aligned with Halone, she is also guided by Mars, the god of war after all. Another example would be Aries, which is often described as Brave, Devoted and Decisive but also Impulsive and Destructive, traits that align with Rhalgr.

Either way, whether your going off of your own sign, favorite sign or just didn't care at the time, here are your Zodiac Signs and their corresponding Guardian Deity's. Hope you enjoy.

According to your information, my character would be like me, a Cancer. Definitely fitting as she is highly affiliated with ice, love, and the moon.

When I read up about The Twelve, I couldn't help but feel like they were the game's representations of the twelve signs of the zodiac. I never really put the effort into the likenesses of the two so choosing Menphina as her diety and it lining up with Cancer was not intentional. It is still a pleasing coincidence though!

I thought that had something to do with my astrological sign when I first started but wasn't entirely sure. It does strike me curious why they based it around Western astrology and not Eastern astrology though, since this game is relatively Eastern based and focused. Anyway, Pisces going down an unpredictable river definitely describes me too a" T"!

Probably because the original concept for FFXIV 1.0's lore and setting was based loosely on the ancient Greek citystates when faced with invasion by the Persian Empire - hence the heavy connatations with the Zodiac.

Anyway, even though I went with Azeyma as my character's guardian despite Enki sharing the Eorzean equivelant of my birthdate (which, as Enki is a Sunseeker miqo'te, that makes sense), Rhalgr would actually be my 'Twelve' zodiac as I am an Aries - and as I had it that Enki was born in Ala Mhigo (which Rhalgr is of course the guardian deity of), the Destroyer just suits me even more.

If I were to go by my zodiac sign, Hyo should have Nophica as her deity, as I'm a Taurus (which honestly really suits me!). But I've always affiliated her with Menphina because Menphina is described as the goddess of love - and that really suits her (being a Keeper of the Moon aside~)!

Cardinal, Muteable, and Fixed energies are getting even further into things. The system of western astrology is quite expansive. We could get into ascendant, moon, and other planetary placements, houses, aspects/oppositions etc. but would just continue to unravel if we did. Because Hydaelyn has six elements opposed to our four, it's going to throw some things off. As an example, both Cancer and Scorpio no longer fall under the element of water, while Virgo which is represented by Earth is now water.

In terms of the three energies, this would likely change as well and muteable being the one that shifts from cardinal to fixed would be the one to go. So each Cardinal and Fixed energies would take one diety from each of the six elements, and would likely look something like this.

Cardinal: Menphina, Nymeia, Oschon, Rhalgar, Azeyma, Althyk

Fixed: Halone, Thaliak, Llylaen, Byregot, Nald'Thal, Nophica
