    What's the deal with stealth?

    I don't get why stealth restricts movement speed. Running around to the various nodes spread all over the place, then playing the little mini-games to extract the items becomes tedious enough as it is. What is the point in making it even more tedious by making us move like a slug when we need to stealth to avoid mobs? I could understand if the stealth was used in some sort of combat, but it isn't. There is a level cap that higher level mobs can see you so it's not like you can stealth and go where you please. Has SE given any information on the reasoning behind the speed reductions while in stealth?

    I can't think of any reason why not to remove the speed reductions on stealth, can anyone else?

    I think it justfifies itself because it keeps you from being eaten by both sound and sight-aggro mobs. Either way, I don't really care. I run through mobs and stealth the short way back once they deaggro.

    You really can't think of a reason? I mean really?

    It's not like many desirable nodes are even near agressive monsters anyways if your forcing yourself to log/mine/fish in a area with lots of agressive monsters you deserve to get your face eaten.

    Fact of the matter being able to avoid agro can't come with zero consequences. Hell I bet a large deal of people would just switch to a DOL to roll through areas that they may have had to actually fight through (Mobs agro up to 10 levels making anything 41+ agressive) FFXI required expensive items or spells (That could backfire, wear off, or be inefective to certain monsters even within level range) FFXIV you just click and walk by, fair trade off I'd say.

    Ditch the stupid stealth abillity and bring back consumable stealth items and then we can talk about running around.

    I thought it was natural that you would move more slowly when trying to sneak past monsters unnoticed.

    There is no need to keep stealth on all the time. Where are you gathering?

    I always run around like a maniac screaming at the top of my lungs when I don't want to be noticed, but that's just me.

    We are only pretending not to notice you as it's too embarassing ^.^;;

    I like the idea that I can be sneaky and inch past big scary monsters on the way to chop down a tree. Although why they do not notice me chopping down a tree is a bit odd.

    The point is it's a needless mechanic that does nothing but make an already tedious part of the game more tedious. You are going to get where you are wanting to go anyway, so why make you get there slower? It doesn't offer a challenge, it doesn't make the game more interesting, it doesn't add anything to the experience of gathering these nodes in a positive way. Obviously some don't seem to agree so I'll leave it at that. Thanks for voicing your opinions.

    That's kinda like saying experience is a needless mechanic because it slows you down from becoming max level. Don't be in such a rush, enjoy the scenery

    Most of us remember the times when Stealth didn't exist at all and are still rejoicing over its inclusion. Reduced movement is fine as a tradeoff because you don't need it on all the time.

    Just activate it when you get near a node that needs it, turn it off when you don't. Really not sure what else to tell you since it's really not that big a deal IMO. If you are finding gathering boring anyways I don't think Stealth moving faster would change that. Alternatively, I'm assuming you're mining, but fishing and logging tend to have a lot less aggressive enemies near their nodes so you can try those instead.
