So i thought came to my mind on regards to housing and i thought i would ask the community. How come they dont make it so that you can only own ONE house for the server you are playing in BUT it would be sharable across all 8 characters that you can create?

A lot of the game feels like it was designed with the idea that people would mostly only play one character honestly.

You can't even send mail to your other characters without using a glitch to add yourself as a friend, a glitch they may have fixed by now.

IMO they should update both the housing and mail systems to work better with multiple characters. Let you send mail not just to friends but also your alts on the same server. Give your characters housing access on the same server too if on the same service account/server.

They did say they were looking into a solution for alts, but were vague about what it might be and haven't said a word since the 'looking into it' bit.

They really do not want sharing between characters on the same account. The given excuse is RMT, but since RMT form companies and use the FC chest, that rings a bit hollow. Most games have a shared 'bank' of some sort that allows you to pass items and money to your alt characters, but SE seems to be adamantly against that. Their stance is that each character is an individual in its own right and not connected to the others.

HOWEVER. Because of the housing shortage, now some of those characters can't have houses, so that concept has kind of gone out the window. They should just give us a shared bank or put alts on our friends list automatically (and added as automatic tenants on any housing as well).

I would honestly just want to know the technical side as to why SE is not able to implement it. Because it's like you say the whole each character individuality bit doesnt really explain much.

I would imagine at this point it's tied into a character needs to be on our friends list to be made a tenant and we can't add our alts to our friends list. Some players also could have more alts than the system is programmed to allow as tenants.

I do believe they are going to have a solution for it next expansion but it's unlikely to be until 5.1 or later.

There is no conceivable technical reason as to why SE would not be able to implement it. They can if they want to, but they don't want to.
