    Question about MP and TP

I'm a new player and have never played any ff before. I'm a lvl 11 at the moment and constantly running out of MP. I can see I have around 220 MP and 1000 TP. Why do I have so much more TP than MP? Since I dont use TP was there something in the character set up I chose that gave me more TP than MP?

Your MP will increase as you level. I see that you’re listed as a Thaumaturge, so you can expect your MP to end up in the ~15,000 range by the time you hit level 70 (this is what my level 70 Black Mage has—Thaumaturge becomes a Black Mage at level 30).

As for TP, it is static and will remain 1,000 the entire time you level and play for every job you play. At least until the new expansion drops—they are removing it in 5.0.

As for running out of MP, Thaumaturge and Black Mage actually have ways of regenerating their MP so that you never run out. You’re fairly low level right now, so your MP regeneration will come from using Transpose.

You should start out using Fire until your MP is almost gone. Then you will hit Transpose to transition into Umbral Ice, which gives you a massive MP regeneration. When Transpose comes back up (it has an 8-second cooldown), you will hit Transpose again to return to Astral Fire. Spam Fire until your MP is almost gone, and repeat.

Magic classes don't have to worry about TP, its only used for the physical classes. Everyone has 1000 TP throughout the entire game...for now atleast, the current plan is that when Shadowbringers comes out TP will be phased out even for physical classes, though we aren't sure on details yet.

Sprint used to take all of your TP and have a higher time limit the more you had, but this was removed alongside an increased cool down so non-mage classes could use it.

Use ice spells to increase your mp while dealing weaker damage. Use fire to deal good damage at the cost of your mp. "Transpose" will flip your state from "astral fire" to "umbral ice", or umbral ice to astral fire. In umbral ice your mp will regen. In astral fire it will not regen but instead costs even more mp and you do more damage.

Use fire spells until your mp is almost empty. Then you transpose and start casting ice based spells until your mp is full again. use transpose once more after that and restart from the beginning.

You’ll get there! The more you play and the more you practice, the easier things become!

For Astral Fire and Umbral Ice, you'll see balls of Fire or Ice whirling about your character. The types of balls you see will help you kee up with which phase you're in.

There's also a list of icons representing the effects active on your character. They have the added bonus of showing timers for how long the effect will last before it expires.
