Just wanted to shout out to the devs and say "thanks" for the awesome weather day/night effects in this game. Best I've seen in an MMORPG to date IMHO. The wind and rain storms are awesome, and how it affects our character is awesome as well. GG!![]()

On wednesday, my LS hosted our "Proving Grounds", which is basically a pvp tournament. Anyways, while we were conducting, weather kept changing and in one of those, the sky was dark and there was lightning while one of the most intense matchups were happening. Really added to the atmosphere.
So yeah, weather in this game is pretty cool
Healing DRK is literally... the same since ShB. The reason why people think it's a meme to heal nowadays because DRK receives very little to no buff to their sustainability vs 3 other tanks getting something useful. If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.
I wanted to comment on this a few times too as playing so I'm glad you did. They've added so many weathers (pretty too) and improved the sky a lot from way way back when 1.0 days (azim steppe night sky is perfect).
I love they have a few extreme versions of stuff too, sometimes I enter a zone and I'm mentally yelling to npcs to get over the chaos lol.
Good stuff! I'm looking forward to the new weathers they mentioned for 5.0- wonder what they may be...![]()
That is so true!
I am very impressed with the lighting as well. The mood that happens when the sun sets or other ambience effects is stunning.
As I am a fan of clever light design (like in STYX: SHARDS OF DARKNESS or ORI AND THE BLIND FOREST), and FF14 has some that, too.
This was one of my first screenshots I have ever taken, and to this day I love the lighting in that scene.
(Back then I was still blonde and an archer)

I think the weather effects are very nice. However, I must say that I liked rain in Black Desert Online a bit more (in fact, graphics are the only good thing that game had in my opinion, hahaha). There were real water pools on the ground when it rained, and characters were more noticeably wet. But perhaps that'd be a bit too realistic for FFXIV?
Actually the "wet look" has improved over years. It used to be that when it would rain you would not even appear wet. They changed this around 3 years ago if memory serves
I love it the most when it's a crisp clean night sky and you get the spiral arm showing off. I also love how the sky looks when it's umbral static in the sea of clouds with how it's a dark blue swirly thunderstorm. Or when it's doing about the same thing in the forelands which and Coruel Regina is up.
There are a lot of cool weather and environmental effects in this game. One of my favorites is the storms at the Churning Mists. Not sure why, but for as intense as they seem there's something almost calming about those storms. Of course, the music there helps with that I'm sure.
Weather effects is one of my favorite things about this game. I am particular to clear night skies, especially in Coerthas and I pretty much get the same feels as when I look at the nighttime sky IRL, which is amazing. Thanks to John Carpenter's 'The Fog', Odin's tension weather seriously creeps me out. They could make a R rated horror film from the Black Shroud alone.
Fishing is an activity I really love doing, and the weather is a big reason for that. If we had more glamour plates, I would definitely take advantage of it by having certain outfits for various areas of the game.
