People talking about how SE is based in japan must not remember or didn't play during 2.0.
It's been a long time, but I remember maintenance happened late at night a whole lot back then. I'm not sure when or why they stopped caring about american primetime...but it does kinda suck.

Maint until like a month ago has been 10-11pm pst to 3am. It's only a few recent ones that have been extended.People talking about how SE is based in japan must not remember or didn't play during 2.0.

Maintenance for me usually starts at 11pm or midnight and finishes early in the morning. Except for major patches that take 24 hours.
The fact is, no matter when they take the servers down globally, it's going to be prime time for someone. It's unavoidable in a global service.
Also yes, the name "America" refers colloquially to the United States of America. If you're talking about the continents, you'll add the North or South to it, and every other country on these continents just refers to themselves as their country. Our's happens to share its name with the continent it's on, and "The United States of America" is a mouthful.

They work extremely long hours, including weekends. I think the question should be asked, "When will we start caring about theirs"?People talking about how SE is based in japan must not remember or didn't play during 2.0.

Concerning this subject of maintenance during our normal play time in the west, they understand we do pay for their service, and I personally enjoy what they have to offer, but....

It's best to remember they are human too, table manners and patience should be offered to others just the same as you would wish them practiced upon you. And even the best hotels require their tenants to leave the room at some point during the day so they can change the sheets and clean up so it remains of a star quality.

There, fixed it for you. USA =/= America. America is a really big continent that happens to include the US.
On topic: There was a time where there was constant maintenance from 7pm. I almost stopped paying to wait until it got better. It's annoying, but at leats it's only a day.

"America" (as I understand it from over here in Australia) is specifically a shortened form of "the United States of America", a country within the continent of North America.
There is no single continent called America, and I would understand any reference to "America" to be equal to "USA".

"America" is also used as a term for North America and South America together, and that was also the original meaning of the name.
Also, in many places America as a whole is actually considered to be a single continent. In other places it is considered to be composed of two continents - North and South America.

I'm an American. We call our country America. I'm from America. (not all that proud about it, evidenced by the fact I'm an expat in Japan, but that's besides the point).Depends.

What you and the other poster are referring to is "the Americas". That refers to the entirety of North and South America. No one from Canada, Mexico, or South America refers to themselves as an American or being from America. At the very best (for your position), they will say "I'm from the Americas". But most times they'll just say their country, North America, or South America.
