I thought they only punished for this if the numbers were used for harassment?

Someone can probably link you the video. But SE stance is, we don't see it you are ok. Not a harassment issue, it's a violation issue. That is why everyone says "Don't mention in game". It gives the GM a reference on where to check logs even if it is a tell.
