entitled to your own opinion but definitely entitled player. "I dont get what i want so im going to play the victim wait and see even though ill be back every patch complaining."From what I’ve seen it mostly boils downs to people being dissatisfied with the game over the years and genderlocking was the final straw for them.
I love FFXIV for what it is, but even I have been less and less happy with the direction the game has taken. While I won’t unsub because of the genderlocking, I can certainly say that depending on what content gets added in 5.0, this might be the last expansion I’ll be buying.
How can you fight for male Viera? So you stay in a dirty hotel room and keep paying for the rest of your vacation because simply leaving is "giving up" and "whining"? May you ellaborate further? If you feel strongly enough, it's your right to do what you wish. I personally was really upset by the exclusivity of the new races (only because SE has done this in the past and said they wouldn't do it again)--however I love this game too much to stop playing. And besides I view quitting as giving up or whining and I'm not the type of person who gives up, I fight for what I think is right.
These people were fighting a lot, hence the massive uproar and the sole reason this thread and discussion exist - and being flamed a lot for that. Ironically, they are told to leave if they don't like this game . . . . .
If it weren't for the fact the devs put tons of time and work into implementing these new races, I'd heavily suggest they cut them out. If adding new content causes this much upset, why do it at all?
The devs have explained exactly why there are no male Viera or female Hrothgar, and it was mainly due to both technical and design reasons. Technical because they are building, and still fixing, off of the original 1.0. 2.0 isn't a completely built from the ground up game, it still uses a lot of parts from 1.0, and unfortunately they've met with some technical limitations. Design being the fact there are over 10k equipable items. For every new race and gender, 10k items roughly have to be modified. The biggest decider in all of this as well, is that they wanted both a new humanesk race, and a bestial race. They know that they can only do 2 different characters, so a gender-lock was the only way they could introduce new races and try to make everyone happy. However, it seems this backfired big time on SE.
Take these scenarios:
1. They make female and male Viera. Those who asked for more bestial race will be upset and threaten to leave the game.
2. They make female and male Hrothgar. Same situation as with Viera, those who wanted them will be upset, especially after the teasing.
3. They make both... and either kill some of their staff from overwork or spend waaaaay to much money and time required to fix the underlying technical issues and design tasks. Essentially making a whole new engine. (kinda)
4. They make neither and instead make a new healer class or something else.
I for one, take the path of understanding. Taking on 1.0 and making it into something was a huge achievement, but definitely at a cost. And... welp... Here's the receipt coming up. Would I expect SE to take better care of these issues in future iterations of the MMO franchise? Yes, but I wouldn't twist their arm over something when they literally saved a game from ruin.
I made this! Everyone enjoy for shits and giggles.

In fairness, despite the fact hrothgar are kind of cool... With the data at hand the decision to create them seems like a poor choice. They have the data for Roe play numbers already, they were locked into creating Viera the moment Ivalice came out, and they decided to attempt to keep Hrothgar entirely under wraps until fanfest. The level of fallout on "no beastial race" would have been nowhere near as large as "Two races both gender locked"The biggest decider in all of this as well, is that they wanted both a new humanesk race, and a bestial race. They know that they can only do 2 different characters, so a gender-lock was the only way they could introduce new races and try to make everyone happy. Now that they're made I'm really excited for them, but the decision and the handling of the announcement of the decision seems like they tempted angering the playerbase a lot more than they needed to
Salt. Nothing more.
FF is growing. We'll be fine and our community is great!
Well this thread got thoroughly cleaned out. All my posts are gone, though hopefully only because I replied to another now-deleted post and it's just the mods doing their "delete all references to deleted posts" thing.
Will try to re-reply to other people later. >_<
They pay for it lol so why arnt they entitled to their opinion of dissatisfaction? I don’t care about the race stuff so much but I’m extremely dissatisfied with how bland male creation/glamour/hair styles/and as simple as weapon stances in this game are...the female version isn’t super great either but their Glamor/stances vastly make up for some of that. where is I can’t even have scruff unless I wanna be a highlander with no eye brows and a beefy character model.
Really if anyone quit because they can't play a new race in the gender they want, I would say SE is better off without that few $... The headache isn't worth it.
If you think about the time it takes to make a new race. Remodel all the gear... Making quests and lore. The pay off is very very little.
I will not be switching. I'm happy for people that do and like it. But I would take content over customizations.
Jobs are content they all play differently.
Quests are content.
Dungeons are content.
.
.
.
Glamour is content...
But Glamour on any male or female character is the same content...
Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.
Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!
