How to RP ?

Hi all,

New RPer here, just came back to the game after playing extensively in Heavensward but had to make a new account because I had lost my authenticator.

So, long story short, I understand that there is only 2 realms where RP is active, Balmung and Mateus. However, both of those are full and the game does not even want to let me pay to transfer to them.

So am I doomed to not RP at all because I came back too late?

Also, I don't really remember the early game, but I am a 16 lancer on my new character and the TTD dungeon still does not show up on my duty finder. Anyone knows why?

There are currently no worlds designated "Congested", which means everything is open for paid transfer. Restrictions on character creation will still happen during active times, but transfers are allowed.

If you can't make it onto one of the worlds you want, just be on the same data center (Balmung and Mateus are on Crystal). Then use the World Visit system to play on the server you want.

I would also contact customer service to review options for retrieving the original account after losing the authenticator. Here's the support link: https://support.na.square-enix.com/f...90&id=496&la=1

As for unlocking the dungeon, it doesn't go by level; it goes by main scenario quest progress.

You understand wrong. Those are not the only realms were RP is active, even though they are the busiest in terms of RP activity. Omega is the third busiest RP server, but I do know there are also smaller RP groups active on many other servers - Jenova is one I have heard has a fair amount of RP.

Besides, right now no NA/EU server is labeled Congested so you should be able to do a paid transfer to Mateus or Balmung should you so wish.


Also, dungeons do not automatically show up in in the duty finder just because you reach the right level. You also need to unlock the dungeon through some quest. For the earliest dungeons that is all done during the Main Story Quest.

As a denizen of Jenova, I can confirm that there is an active RP community here. I don't follow them at all, so I couldn't tell you how active, but I do see them here and there.

At its most basic level, roleplay refers to staying in character. Instead of using your character as an avatar to talk (as yourself) to other players of Final Fantasy XIV, you would use a combination of chat and emotes to make your character talk to other characters as fellow adventurers living in Eorzea, and you do things because that's what your character would do rather than because of how it would advance your progress in the game, like you might stop at Buscarron's Druthers for a drink, not because of any gameplay advantage you get by doing so, but because your character is tired and wants a drink.

Players who like to roleplay might give their characters unique personalities distinct from their own, and often come up with more about their character's background than what the game itself provides, since it's a lot easier to stay in character and do what your character would do if you know who he or she is.

The background part in particular leads to a lot of overlap between actual in-character roleplaying and what I call character storytelling. In real life, and presumably in Eorzea as well, people aren't likely to greet a stranger by telling their life story, but roleplayers who have well-developed background stories for their characters may want to tell those stories. So sometimes that sort of storytelling about your character gets lumped in with RP as well.
