I'm probably one of the very few who just wishes that FF 8 would get some love. Heck, they didn't even port it over to the Switch, yet they released 7, 9, 10, 12 and some alternative version of 15.
Why would they need to do an FF7 re-release crossover? FF7 will sell like hotcakes and won't need XIV to prop it up. They'll have no need to bring it to the MMO and try to get people interested in investigating the game.
That's been the theme of square-property crossovers. They want to boost the sales of the other property; since these crossovers never happen at the height of their popularity.
Considering the name in charge of it is more reliable at missing deadlines than keeping them, they'll need that crossover to even keep it in people's minds. Why would they need to do an FF7 re-release crossover? 8's my least favorite but I'd buy every skin our outfit that's provided from it in a heartbeat. If there's one thing I can't fault about that game, it's the design direction.
Also if we do get FF7 weapons, I hope we get some of Yuffie's weapon for Dancer.\

A FFVII Remake crossover is highly likely though, given Yoshi himself is on record saying his favourite FF game is FFVII (and how big both games are - FFVII's success needs no real elaboration and FFXIV ARR saved SE from utter ruin after FFXIV 1.0's failure).
If you're hoping for the Buster Sword though, that's already out as it's in FFXIV already anyway in a way (it's the graphic for the level 2 and 3 DPS Limit Break). Really I'm less interested in glamour weapons and more outfits (Yes, I just want Aeris's dress, are my intentions that transperant?).![]()

Crossovers that are between two companies, yes. Monster hunter benefited from the audience it gained in XIV, and XIV benefited by the audience within Monster Hunter.
When it's one company using a crossover, it's only to promote it's second IP. Lightning was advertised within XIV to increase the poor sales of XIII, the same with XV. There wouldn't be a mutual benefit to advertising VII within XIV, as that title is anticipated and won't need the advertising as the numbers interested in VII exceed the playerbase of XIV if past sales of the original game are any indication.
I'm not going to ever say i don't want a crossover; but it's not going to be a priority to do one if they don't need to advertise the game.
