people dont set their status to seeking party cos the people making parties dont bother searching to see if anyone is looking for party. there are a few exceptions of course but i think i'm fairly accurate. along with the generic that alot of people dont even know how to use it properly.

what i personally miss is the lfp icon nextt o your name and the text commands which you could easily macro. i could log in hit a macro and that's it job done wait for invite. /sc 75rdm/nin/sam limit points can i have it. /scu /inv done.

at present i tend to find the only time people use search is if there already in natalan and one member drops party and even then it usually comes after people cycle there linkshells asking if anyone wants to fill the spot. the search itself has kind of become the last resort it seems.

hopefully they'll improve it. make it less clunky to use make it work and make it easier to search. like someone above said /sea all 40-50 inv would be so quick and easy in comparison to the existing system.

i think really this is a big part of why everyone sits in ul'dah if you're anywhere else then you're highly likely to miss the party entirely where if people used search it would matter where you were. that and the way the current market system works. if the wards was a centralised system it wouldnt matter if your retainer was in limsa grid or uldah but at present the only real chance you have to sell anything is to sell it in ul'dah. which is why everyone stays there. probably count the number of retainers in limsa or grid on one hand.

which in turn is also why it seems 9/10 people are in the immortal flames. be interesting to see if the gc membership evens out if they ever let people change with ishgard and 2.0 as imo ishgard will become the new aht ungan / jeuno centralised place for events.

but yeah i think the current trends that make everyone sit in ulda'h are a huge part of why the search doesn't get used as much as it could. if you step out of ul'dah then you're almost certain to miss out on that forming party. and because everyone's in uldah it's easier to just shout. if people were more spread out the n the search would be more comonly used i think. but again there's no benefit from being anywhere else at present

[dev1332] The following changes have been made to the Search interface:
    • The option to search by job has been added.
    • Multiple preferred classes can now be specified.
    And, wait for it....

[dev1333] The text command /search (/who) has been added for performing player searches.
For example, the following command line performs a search for pugilists between levels 10 and 20, whose status is Online.

    /search online pgl 10-20
The following conditions can be specified:
    * All conditions are selected when none are designated.
    • Player Status
ONLINE (logged in) / INVITE (seeking invite) / PARTY (currently in party)
      Ex.) /search invite
    • Class
DOW (Disciples of War) / PGL (pugilist) / GLA (gladiator) / MRD (marauder) / ARC (archer) / LNC (lancer) / DOM (Disciples of Magic) / THM (thaumaturge) / CNJ (conjurer) / DOH (Disciples of the Hand) / WDK (woodworker) / BSM (blacksmith) / ARM (armorer) / GSM (goldsmith) / LTW (leatherworker) / WVR (weaver) / ALC (alchemist) / CUL (culinarian) / DOL (Disciples of the Land) / MIN (miner) / BTN (botanist) / FSH (fisher)
      Ex.) /search con
    • Job
Search for only those players who have obtained the jobs affiliated with the designated class.
      Ex.) /search job
    • Level
      XX: Search for exact match.
      XX-YY or XX
      Ex.) /search 45-50
      * Omitting a value will result in a search for players within 5 levels of your own.
    • Grand Company Affiliation
GCL (Maelstrom) / GCU (Immortal Flames) / GCG (Order of the Twin Adder) / GCN (no affiliation)
      * All conditions are selected when none are designated.
      Ex.) /search gcg
    • Area
Search for players in the designated area.
      Ex.) /search [South Shroud]
*As is the case with all subcommands, place names with more than one word need to be in brackets.
    • Language
EN (English) / JA (Japanese) / FR (French) / DE (German)
      Ex.) /search en
If the Search interface is open when /search is executed, the conditions on the intertace will change to reflect those specified in the text command.

Maybe with the addition of new classes people will learn how to use it, personally it's not a difficult system to use in my opinion. I figured it out myself menu search check the boxes. OR uldah will be a disaster full of party shouts. Not to say I haven't shouted for a party I have but I spread the shouts out minimal several minutes so I'm not spamming or being an annoyance. I leave my seeking party flagged with comments and quest craft etc then once in a while if I'm in uldah shout because I feel some people don't bother checking party search unless it's out of desperation. Because I see looking for members shout just as often as looking for party shouts. I feel like uldah right now is the jeuno of XIV.

I don't disagree with text commands being faster.
They are faster, unless you are a hunt-and-peck typist.

Why do you think programmers and tech geeks tend not to like GUIs?

And the search interface really isnt hard to use nowadays...
It really is sad, I'll join a group needing 2~3 more and leader has been /sh about 20~30mins and I'll fill party in 1min using the search

Funny how some will brag about their Moogle speed run but can't even use a basic game mechanic ><

I don't know about other servers, but on mine pretty much nobody knows the player search exists..
SE should really force a mini tutorial on all players to show new things only those who visit the Lodestone/forums regulary know about-.-
I told about 40 people about the search function, but way too less to increase the amount of players using it by a significant amount.
If SE just implemented a textmessage popping up next time every player logs in, I bet it would be used waaaay more often.
And it's not even hard to do.

    That makes no sense !

A WHM is a CNJ, I will go look at the notes again tho.

Ok you are right, that's kind of backwards but fair enough.
