As far as I can tell, this is the most graphically demanding mmo there is. I mean the game is stunning visually. Soooooo I'm a little bit confused. At least SE hasn't pulled a blizzard and left their tech in the past just so people on potatoes can play their game too.

Black Desert, Moonlight Blade, Archage, and a ton of others both old and new would like to say something about that.

FFXIV has good art design (mostly; there's a handful of exceptions where the transition from concept art to 3D model didn't turn out quite right imo), but on a technical level, it was dated at release, let alone now. While I don't expect a full-on rework, simple things like textures, shaders, and mesh updates for character models (especially our feet) would go a long way in future-proofing the game.

agreed. FFXIV still looks good, dont get me wrong, but their are newer technologies that it could benefit from as well.

Perhaps a little adventuring out-of-game can help with that. The character creation of BDO alone runs circles around this.

That's not to say I find XIV unpleasant, it's just not even in the running for most graphically demanding.

Visually stunning is pushing it way too far. Dragon Raja built on un4 for mobile looks 10x better than ff14. ff14 artstyle is great but the textures, clunky movement when walking and turning and etc is holding it back. Blade and soul is moving to unreal engine 4 this year and bdo just got a remaster. Also moonlight blade is drop dead gorgeous. Back in 2013 your statement would have held up but ff14 is not leading the visually stunning department anymore. Still a pretty game in certain aspects to be sure.
