Game suddenly locks up whenever I log in

Starting today, the game has been freezing and locking up my computer every time I log in.

The first time it happened, I had been in game for about 5 minutes before it suddenly locked up. I was in Middle La Noscea riding a mount toward a mining node and all of a sudden the game froze and locked my computer up. I restarted and logged in again, only for the game to immediately freeze and lock up. I have attempted to log in several times today and each time it's the same thing.

I had no other programs running at the time. The only change I've made today was I plugged in some speakers (I had been playing with headphones on), so the first thing I tried was unplugging them and updating all my sound drivers, but that didn't help. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled the game but that didn't fix it, either.

If I could get some help, I would really appreciate it. I just returned to the game after a couple years and it's frustrating being locked out like this.

Do you receive any kind of error message when this happens? Does the game simply not respond or do you have to restart the entire PC?

When you reinstalled the game, did you delete the locally-saved data (located My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV)?

One thing you may want to try is a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.
