    Video content

Anyone else feel that the video's SE put out don't accurately represent whatever content is being showcased? Cutter's Cry looks dreadfully boring, but I'm sure it's not so cut and dry as the video shows. I know I thought the same about the Moogle video, but was surprised at how much better it was actually in game.

Obviously, experiencing something over watching something is going to be the best experience, but I don't know, these videos are just so stale, bland, and void of any excitement. Anyone else feel the same way?

I'm sure fan made videos would instill more excitement over the official videos ;\

I just hope they get their act together for E3, because that needs a good gameplay video.

edit: okay that was a little mean. I didn't like the Ifrit video very much, and I think they probably don't put a ton of time into these.

Go make your own video of the raid then. Trailers aren't supposed to be frame by frame analysis.

This is essentially marketing, how is this even supposed to get current players excited, let alone people who might see this video, but not play? I sure as hell wasn't excited after seeing this video...again though, maybe it's just me. /shrug

Having so much on their shoulders just to get this game 2.0 ready is probably why the videos don't have much of the WOW effect you are looking for. A lot of these videos seem to be someone just recording during testing phases. Not actually recording/editing for the sake of a marketing video.

That's the thing...you can't really make a MMO raid "look exciting" without either:

    1. Showing what doesn't exist (common)
    2. Showing "BIG SCARY MONSTER" that you'll fight for all of 7 seconds in a lot of MMOs cuz they tend to be zerged down lol
    3. Playing music that doesn't even play in the game, but gives it the epic feel.

Stuff like that. It leads to good marketing but it also leads to a concept called bait & switch (happens a lot with WoW's raids >.>), which is the last thing you want to do. All a trailer is supposed to do is show something off, excitement is subjective since some people like flashy trailers that shows off nothing but fighting while others like trailers that shows off the location or story elements of a raid.

It's hard to excite everyone, which is why a lot of game trailers are essentially the same thing as of late lol, just overly flashy. Hell it excited me to finally fight yet another classic FF enemy, especially because they tend to always be the ruiner of your world (especially early on in FFV.)

    For instance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3w5XMJVuok

It's not the best example (it's a mashup and not a preview, but the concept remains the same), the music probably actually hurts it more then it helps it (which SE wouldn't even be able to go down this path to begin with), but it's far more engaging then anything SE has put out. On top of that, it does give prudent information about what the fight is about. It's not just all about being "flashy".

We understand that there are multiple moogles, we understand that each moogle has its own job which one can assume that each moogle has their own set of unique abilities, there is a main large moogle, we are in an arena, we even get some back story prior to the actual engagement, etc. It gives everything that SE gives, but with a far better direction and scope.

It's more then just showing auto-attack.

Again, it was fan made, there are dead spots in the video where it just drags on and so forth but it's a great example imo that even taking some time to edit a video can make it far more appealing.
