A good idea to improve housing for all.

Allow the inside of a house, apartment, fc room to be a selected design.

For example, someone might not care to have a basement but might want a bigger main room.

Imagine if a small house could have simply one big room like the large house's basement. It is a shame to get space like that requires a large house. For some, just that basement is all they really want.

Similar, people unlucky to get a house might enjoy being able to make their apartment have a downstairs like small houses do.

Infact, someone with a large might not like the inside design of larges and might opt for a medium inside design rather than what large has now. I know some who dislike the large house version of an attic.

I would go further to say, in a world of magic, there is no reason a small plot cannot look like a large inside.
Would this anger people with large plots or deter buying them if a small can have the same inside?
No.
Larges are coveted simply because they are super rare. They also have the biggest outside space. They are essentially an item of status for a char or fc.

Ex: allowing an apartment to have a small house inside doesn't destroy the desire for a small house.
Why?
Point of a house is visibility. People can run around and see it. Apartments lose this.
Fc will always want a house.
Most hang around the outisde of a house even, something apartment doesn't have.

However, if you let apartments change the layout and small houses opt for a bigger inside, housing would be less of a pain than it is now.

At least somone who didn't get a house could have the feel of a house in an apartment instead of a tiny one room thing.

Someone with a small who didn't get a med could rearrange the inside, etc.

And ofc, allow gardening indoors.

Hmm What they could do with APTs is have 2 different ones - A large apt, and the current size. Price differenes of course between the two, but the primary difference is the large Apt (Lets call it a pent house) would have a slot space of 150, and a 'balcony the player could access from their apt that allows you 10 slots of garden stuff.

The physical dimensions of the apts would probably remain the same though. There should be big enough distinction to push for a house over an apt. But right now the incentive for apts just isnt enough yet.

They really messed up with Apartments, remember when they said "Apartments would be bigger than Company Rooms, and a bit smaller than a Cottage" yeah.
First of all, big mistake putting apartment buildings in the housing Ward, they should have placed a building inside each City, and given a selection of sizes, with each having a Balcony and gardens to match that of the three house sizes.


Who wouldn't like to hang out on their Apartment Balcony inside the City and be able to garden and relax (outside furnishings) while overlooking say the lake and waterfall in Gridania for example (Next or near to the airship dock, behind the CRP guild etc).
I'd drop my Large house for such a setting, you could make S, M, L and XL size Apartments, with XL sizes being classed as a house and you can only own one or the other, meaning more Plots free for those who want a "Neighborhood" (Ghost town) experience.

But honestly, I don't see a problem. This should be an option for those who want it.

houses are already bigger on the inside. smalls have a hall to the basement on one side despite the outsides being perfectly symmetrical. now that you know this it will bother you forever . :P

That's probably a result of the fact that when housing first launched, smalls didn't have a basement.

If apartment and house have same dimensions, people will still push for houses.

Because a house is put in the open with an exterior that people can see.

You can't make a carbuncle apartment for example.


There is no reason apartments have to be trash to "push people to buy houses".
That only serves to make anyone without a house utterly dissappointed.

That is why if inside an apartment is the exact same as a small, it would be alot better.
FC still gonna want an outside for people to hang out.
But a solo person might be more satisfied with an apartment.
