Been on the game 10min and I already hate world visit. The items I sell to make gil are being sold for the same price as I buy my materials for so until it's over it looks like I wont be making any gil.

is world vist system in game yet? i looked for it but nothing
Go to one of the 3 main cities aetheryte it will give you and option to travel to another server
So... make gil some other way? Maybe dont buy your mats? Or try selling something else? It sounded to me like this was a new permanent change to the game, so it likely wont be "over" any time soon.
Probably cheaper mats were found on another server, so while the sell price is lower, their profit margin could be the same. Go around to other servers and look for cheaper mats.
I think over time this will level out, or people will tire of having to hop from server to server to find the best price.
People won't need to check other servers after a bit once prices stabilize across the data center. Either way, there are still plenty of ways to make gil, you just won't be able to make it selling for ridiculous prices per single item because of the lack of competition on smaller servers.Probably cheaper mats were found on another server, so while the sell price is lower, their profit margin could be the same. Most mats I provide myself the ones I buy are from extreme content or lost canals stuff that usually requires a group. I only just became a omni crafter and was excited to start making some real gil so guess I'm just salty is all.
The "real gil" window closed long before world visit was implemented. Rakasha gear sold in the millions when it was released. On Sarganatas it goes for ~ 200K today.
There are decent gil making opportunities out there, you just have to study the markets.
All your gil windows coincide with patch and expansion releases.
It starts up at near exploitative prices, then rapidly dips to a normal, 'sane for everyone else' price about a month.
X.0 - New expansion. Everything is new. Prices day 1 are stupid. Super stupid. You will make a lot of gil just from gathering here, let alone crafting equipment for the new jobs and new level capped items - usually accessories.
X.0.5 - Raid tier releases. First tier of crafted combat gear is out. Accessories have traditionally lasted the longest (Cuz tanks and BIS stat set ups) but all combat gear gets stupid for week 1 progression.
X.1 - Crafter patch. If you can comfortably craft your stuff, your profit will be huge for those trying to play catch up with their own crafters. Primal weapon skins and furniture is popular in odd patches.
Then it alternates - Every even patch, combat gear gets released and surges, then falls. Every odd patch, new crafter gear is released, and your ability to abuse this largely depends on how late you want to make your own gear.
I'm kind of with the OP on this. I could sell something on my local MB for say 1 million gil. then the ability to server jump came along and you could find the same item for 1/10th the price. My server may be one of the smaller ones and might not have as many high level crafters, so it made sense to have a higher price for the harder to get items. But now we can travel around servers, I have to deal with servers that have more players and a higher number of high level crafters that can make the rare stuff. I get how all the economics work for all of it (Kind of like Walmart coming in to a town and out pricing all the smaller mom and pop shops) but it definitely makes it a bit more frustrating coming from one of the "smaller shops". I hope prices do all balance out in the end.
at the very least, I wish the MB would show me how much other servers are asking for an item too. I don't want to have to jump around 5 different servers before posting something, just so I can have a chance of selling it.
