I would assume, depending on how the DB is structured, that they could query for materia'd gear pre patch, perform the maintenance, then do a post update query and make sure it matches. If not, restore player inventory from backup before allowing people back on, or at least generate a note to the affected players that it will be restored shortly.
Handling it through GM calls just seems messy.
This warning is needed!! more people should know. If you ever lose any items due to a glitch or yourself the GM's will do nothing about it. They will just tell you "I am sorry its beyond our scope of services".
Only with a server side patch because its a server issue, rather than a client issue because its only a problem after server maintanance, if it was a client issue we would loose materia everytime we logged out.
About them handling it through GM calls perhaps its a bigger issue than they thought, and it couldnt be fixed before everyone threw thier PCs out the windows in a rage. I believe it will be fixed in 1.21a, b or c depending on how hard it is to fix.

That could be a HUGE query, reloading all that data could take a very long time. Maybe they've determined that this is the best route to take. Or maybe they ARE doing that, but wanted to warn the players first so that they don't have to do as much restoration of the meld data.I would assume, depending on how the DB is structured, that they could query for materia'd gear pre patch, perform the maintenance, then do a post update query and make sure it matches.
