The name of the game is FINAL FANTASY XIV right there in the title. New Players should come in knowing there is an actual story to the leveling process and that it will be different from other MMOs that just drop you off in the intro area after a quick introduction to collect quests that say ey go over into them woods and kill the things and leave you to that until you hit the last tiers of leveling where you hit those new quests with no sense of accomplishment or no understanding of what happened when you switched into a new leveling zone. Each quest in the story progression builds from the last, building up the player understanding of the world and why they're doing what they're doing. Each great accomplishment letting you move farther and farther along and eventually accumulating into the final act (for the time) of the story arc where you're at.And then you're going about after those continuing to press changes in the wake of the upheaval you were front and center for.
Do some people like it? No not at all these are the self same people that like quick gratification and have no sense that small incremental progress is kind of a key to life as well. However that small percentage does not even come close to representing the far bigger majority that do enjoy it, and savour it ,and learn from it, growing even as the game does. it is the majority that enjoy it that are silent because they have better things to do than come into the forums and nitpick every single thing they find wrong with something. They're out there either enjoying Eorzea or doing the grand adventure of Real Life.
"Sometimes I wonder I heal for fun. or if I heal because I'm a glutton for punishment."
and listening to amazing sick music while surf around the webb the network and ofcs this forum for fun![]()
Why does everyone treat this game like endgame is the only thing there is? This is a story-driven game and jumping to the latest expansion would only serve to confuse you and make you wish you hadn't. Assuming you care about the story at all, and if not then why bother playing the game?
2/5 people i play with at 70 have never read the story and rarely watch a cutscene.
No one is saying they should go endgame, just that msq is too hardcore of a gate the more time passes. To the point that on boarding friends/returning players doesnt work as well.
This is just an MMO with a forced MSQ. Another game I can think of that has A LOT of story is GW2, but you aren't trapped from doing content until you've cleared all of it. There are better ways for SE to handle their story. Why does everyone treat this game like endgame is the only thing there is? And again with the "If you don't like the story, why bother playing" comment. This is one of the stupidest arguments, you people need to stop. If this game only has the story to offer, what do you all do once you finish it up?
I mean to be fair, a new player has to cough up 50 USD in order to do a proper skip. It doesn't even skip you to the end either. A little bit of sodium is warranted I think.
I just lvled up an alt from 1 to 50 in two days this week. You can easily get to 70 in two weeks. ShB is still two months away. They have plenty of time.
If they feel like playing through the story and learning the game as intended is a waste of time, then I don't think this game is for them.
Or they could...play the game from lvl 1? Also as others said New Game+ is coming in ShB, so that will sort that particular issue out.
I know quite a few new players who loved that there was a huge amount of story for them to get through. They had a blast going through the content from 1 - 70. The issue isn't that there is too much content. The issue is players being too impatient.
Sure some quests need to be streamlined but to imply that boost are necessary is just condoning impatience.
just because some people like story means people who dont should spend hours skipping all of it.I just lvled up an alt from 1 to 50 in two days this week. You can easily get to 70 in two weeks. ShB is still two months away. They have plenty of time.

im not sure why you guys think there is benefit in forcing those who dont want to do story to do story.
no one is saying remove story, just make a way out for those who dont want to do it.
