Yup, in fact it’s one of the main reasons a lot of us play the game.

I can confirm this, at least for myself.

It really boils down to what personality type you have, I guess. I've always known people irl who look at the game as a way to log in, do a dungeon or two, and log out - much like playing a round or two of deathmatch in an Xbox Live FPS.

Then you get people who want to "go on an adventure" with their character, like me.

That's pretty poor in my opinion: 5 months for only few hours of mostly voiceless cutscenes, seems a bad bargain to me, especially when I can see them online for free if I wanted.

But if you like that you do you, I don't particularly care, although doesn't change the fact that some of us and many new players might be discouraged to play through and that's a loss for both of you and square: you don't get new players for dungeons, square doesn't get cash.

What about the additional features like dungeons, the LFR, or beast tribes anyway? The Main reasons we play the game?

And the content doesn't? Because if the MSQ alone is enough, 1.0 wouldn't be shut down: story alone is enough to keep the game running, right?

There are some gates that no doubt should not require the MSQ but completely removing the needed to do the MSQ now is a middle finger to everyone who has slogged through it. The skip potions are a good compromise they let you skip the slog for a price and does not feel like a middle finger to veterans of the game. If they remove the need to do the MSQ then everyone who over the years who slogged through the MSQ should be given something unique that No new player will ever be allowed to have..

Indeed, it’s quite disappointing to see people demand the devs take away something I actively enjoy about the game, like serious there’s lots of other games out there that aren’t built around the story they should go play those instead of trying to ruin what we enjoy about the game.

I don't think people are asking story be taken away from you. More like they get to skip closer to content that's active (which causes talk to go onto how to do that, like if a skip potion should now be included or improved or insert whatever). Being placed on the doorsteps or nearby village of content vs placed two oceans away. I don't see how they're ruining anything for you specifically.

Although maybe you're referring to a specific request I didn't quite see/feel as you did, but then see it I did not lol.

nah man, if I had to suffer through the 100 quests post-ARR all these new players should too. If you're dying to play endgame that much (you won't know anything about how the game works and learning is at 60 is going to piss off all the people you group with) then you can buy a skip.

I guess what I’m thinking what people are asking for if something like FFXI’s story which was way more disconnected, like you beat the base game and each expansion kinda did their own thing which didn’t build off the previous expansion’s story, I don’t want that. I love FF14’s story because it’s been one continuous long story.
