I hope I'm not taking things to much out of context...some glimmer of hope perhaps?

Taken from Polygon interview with Naoki Yoshida.

Polygon: Now that Stormblood is finally over, did you learn anything about the playerbase over the course of the expansion? Did they react to reveals and new mechanics the way you expected to?

Naoki Yoshida: Our players have already greatly surpassed our expectations in many ways; they have taken the world of Final Fantasy 14 in as something that is both perpetual and natural. The reason I say it in this way is that players from around the world not only play the content we create, but also organize events and role-play on their own. One could say that many are taking residence in the world of FF14, which is changing what we need to provide — it is no longer just about creating content, but also simply providing a space to play within. I believe this is both a very strong and positive outcome for an MMORPG. The reaction toward battle mechanics and other specifics are a very small factor in comparison to this bigger picture.

I hope that the devs in terms of their awareness of the ffxiv playerbase. consider the housing aspect of the game as one avenue to focus on, when they think about how to provide us players; "who have taken residence in the ffxiv world, as well as organize ourselves for our own in-game events, and role play", with a space to play within.

I think you are reading way too much into it and making a false equivalence there. Here's hoping there are improvements coming all the same, though.

I love the housing aspect of the game, ever since i came to know about it in my early days of playing, at that time private estates were only for free companies. At the moment that the situation is not that ideal, i tend to look for even small scraps of information, anyways yeah here's hoping that there will be some good changes for housing, so everyone if he/she so chooses can have a house.

He's used this kind of terminology in the past, and he was talking about stuff like Bard Performance. So yes, you're probably reading into it too much.

He's not talking about housing. He's talking about the role playing aspect of the game.

I don't expect to get any hints about housing updates until after launch since they seem to get introduced in the x.1 patches.

Yeah, "by providing a space to play" mr. Naoki Yoshida could have just been referring to the creation of new maps or dungeons, but pondering on their observation and statement that players reaction to battle mechanics and possibly other battle specifics are a small factor compared to, i daresay players reaction to the novelty and variety of other side content, that entices players to log on and play the game even more. Thus its nice to know that the devs. see the changes in what their players want and the importance to provide something more than just the usual content.

“Funneling back into things in the studio's rear view, I asked if there was anything Square Enix would have done differently to date. Yoshida emphatically answered "the housing system with patch 2.1 [near the launch of the Realm Reborn 2.0 edition that saved the game]." For those who aren't aware there was a lot of drama surrounding player housing, with veteran players buying up plots in seconds flat while new players were completely locked out of that really fun element of the game. Yoshida's team tried to "close the gap between total gil players possessed" by finagling the price of land, but there was chaos when new players created characters on legacy servers, making everyone unhappy. He doesn't have a solution, but feels "there may have been a better way to execute this overall."”

This is from an interview with destructoid. Yoshi-p has no solution for the current state of housing, so brace yourselves, will be dealing with this for a while...

Maybe for the meantime, SE should lower the random timer on plots for people who would like to try their luck on plots. As for current apartment living, increase the number of furniture for apartments & estates, and upgrade the capacity of lofts to carry other indoor furniture besides tabletop items, most importantly allow indoor gardening, these i believe would entice people to patronize current apartments, untill such time SE implements instanced form of housing through the use of instanced wards or instanced apartments.
