    Lahabrea's Big Blunder

I wonder what Lahadrea's crowning achievement in idiocy was as there are so many possibilities that it could be, my take on it is one of 3 moments

    1. Not making sure there was a full 7th Umbral Calamity as in a complete civilization reset as this allowed people who were starting to become aware of Ascian presence to look into them and later a means to permanently destroy them

    2. Ultima Weapon - basically everything to do in 2.0 not killing us when he should have, being more forceful than in the past, not causing another calamity when he had the means to.

    3. His death at Thordan's hands self explantory he gave the means to someone to be able to kill his being

So what do you all think is Lahabrea's crowning act?

His death makes the most sense, but it could the Ultima Weapon failure. As for the 7th Umbral Calamity thing, Solus was still alive as an old guy then, and he says he was only brought back into the field as an active force after dying because of 'Lahabrea's crowning act of idiocy', which implies that the act hadn't happened before he 'died'. The timeline regarding the war of succession is... kinda vague still as we can't definitively say it (and thus Solus' "death") happened during 2.0 or AFTER 2.0 ended.

I've actually had this exact discussion before, so I feel over-prepared, lol.

As far as the Ascians are concerned, Lahabrea's numerous acts of idiocy could mostly be boiled down to that he needlessly, recklessly, arrogantly toyed with things solely for his own amusement despite them adding unnecessary risk and unpredictability to what (they believed) was an otherwise solid plan. And even when on-script he was too self-assured to dot his i's and cross his t's.

Thus the crowning act of idiocy is, without the shadow of a doubt, "getting himself killed" whilst toying with summoning possibilities and underestimating Thordan.

I played my part to perfection. I had earned my rest. And then, thanks to Lahabrea's crowning act of idiocy, our favorite emissary sees fit to summon me back.
    せっかく役目を演じきって、寝ようってときだったんだぞ。 それを、ラハブレアの爺さんが死んだからって、呼び出されて……。
I went to great lengths to perform my role in this, and it was time to sleep. Then, because old man Lahabrea went and got himself killed, I was summoned back.

I agree that it was the events in Aetherochemical Research Facility that Solus is talking about. Not only did Lahabrea get himself killed, but Igeyorhm as well. Elidibus even sent out Unukalhai to work with the WoL to prevent the Warring Triads (each can cause a Calamity) from waking due to their seals weaking thanks to what what happened earlier.

He's a plot device tbh. I'm still pissed at what he did with Thancred's body but it wouldn't have progressed the plot the way it did if he didn't do his crowning act of idiocy. I just can't wait what the ascians have in store next. After Stormblood, there might be one of more expansion before we even get to actually dealing with them. I'm just stoked.

Based on his exchanges with Varis and the stinger at the end of 4.56? Underestimating mankind.

Could be, i wonder if it will have something to do with the sin eaters i do not think they will tolerate his existence for long, they may use his information about other shards though and how to travel there since as far as we know they only know about their world. The amdapori golems are still an enigma as to their visage origins that i hope gets clarification in ShB but it is possible an amdapori mage had a vision of the 1st and saw the sin eaters killing a monster and they then decided to create the golems in their image

I know what I'm about to say contributes very little to the conversation, but oh my gods, how do I beg of you to give me EVERY PRECIOUS LINE of his JP dialogue like this? ihaveamightyneed

I feel like most of the other Ascians didn't really hold Lahabrea to all that high a regard. Nabrieles, Solus, even Elidibus himself have openly chided him on his reckless and stupid decisions. Igeyohrm may well have been the only unwitting person among their ranks to go along with Lahabrea's schemes, and look what that got her. He managed to get both her and himself taken out because he got in over his head and got overconfident. That certainly would take the crown on such a list of stupid things he'd done.
