With Shadowbringers approaching steadily and DirectX 9 support ending with it, I believe it's about time to report this issue as well, rather than just waiting for the technical support to answer other topics with something that's actually useful. Don't get me wrong, now, I mean no disrespect, but all the palliative solutions, promptly suggested by community and support staff both, are only an attempt to cover something that needs to be solved or at least given a true solution asap, considering there are quite a lot of players currently facing that issue that can only be avoided by turning to DX9 instead of DX11 and that is something that will no longer be possible as of 5.0.

I'm not the only one going through it, and this is the only game it has ever happened. Ever.

What I have tried previously:
1. Clean GPU driver reinstall
2. Clean OS reboot
3. Clean FFXIV reinstall
4. MSI afterburner clock reduction
5. Compatibility Mode on both Boot and Client
6. Playing FFXIV isolated from anything running on chrominium, including Discord

What triggers this error:
1. REALLY Crowded places, such as Eureka
2. Alt-tabbing to another screen under any circumstances, but specially during Loading Screens. This always crashes the game.
3. Unplugging any USB device that has a driver installed
4. Sometimes it just happens out of blue

DXDiag is 100% ok, also.

There has been no big changes to this machine as of the last two years, and this issue has been around for quite a while (I just ignored it and played on DX9 anyways).

No, I did not try installing an older driver. I might. But I hardly believe that will work.

Please, as a commited and continuous FFXIV player, I - WE - need help on this matter. Even though playable, the game's immersion and quality is heavily harmed by this fatal error, and our only solution to it is soon to be no longer available.

So, yes, as of now, my display driver is up to date. I used a driver diag tool to check on the others and all seem to be ok.

As for how long: I'm not really sure. It's been about for quite a while now - ever since late Heavensward, I believe - but I've been using DX9 to avoid stressing myself out with it. Now, we just can't, considering Shadowbringers will quit DX9 support and that pretty much means I can't run from 11000002 anymore.

I switched back to DirectX 11 by patch 4.4, been having this issue ever since.

I might try to downgrade my graphics driver as a player suggested in another one of these topics, but have yet to find a fully compatible one.

Do you know when the crash started? Also does Final Fantasy XIV crash when there are other programs being run in the back ground? Also is the GPU clocked at all and do you having another way of monitoring it?

No, I don't know exactly when the crash started. But I started really noticing it by Tsukuyomi's patch. I don't recall when that was, but I can check it out.

Yes, as long as I can alt+tab or get to somewhere stressed enough, such as a highly-populated zone in Hydatos.

No, it's not. I don't usually modify my GPU clock so there's that. I tried underclocking it due to a suggestion from another player, but no results.
