Commending DPS

My issue with commending DPSes is that most of the time I honestly have no idea how well they did.

If they didn't do something to stand out, I don't know which one did better, and don't know who deserves it. Even more in eight-man content.

This is the biggest issue DPS have when it comes to recognition. It's often hard to gauge how well a DPS is doing at a glance simply because most of what they do is completely invisible.

Held aggro, didn't spin unnecessarily? Tank did a good job. No one died, debuffs cured quickly? Healer did a good job. BLM did... well, huh. I think I saw some fire at one point. That's good, right?

My commendation checklist for dungeons:

Was everybody good? If yes, commend DPS.
Was the tank bad but the healer good? If yes, commend healer.
Was the healer bad but the tank good? If yes, commend tank.
Was the healer and tank bad but the DPS good? If yes, commend DPS.
Was everybody bad? If yes, leave and don't commend.


My commendation checklist for trials/raids:

Was everybody good? If yes, pick based on tiny things you noticed that you liked that they did.
Was somebody a BLM/SAM/DRG and didn't die? If yes, commend.
Was a healer bad? If yes, commend other healer.
Were both healers bad? If yes, commend tanks.
Was a tank bad? If yes, commend other tank.
Were both tanks bad? If yes, commend healers.
Were tanks and healers bad? If yes, commend DPS.
Were one/more DPS bad? If yes, commend good DPS.
Were all DPS bad? Commend tanks/healers.
Was everybody bad? Leave, do not commend, take a cold shower, try not to cry, cry a lot.

I com who ever made the run more memorable. But I feel final should bring in the same com system that league use to have where you could com everyone in the party or not depending on performance. Example if the run was great everyone gets a com. If the healer was an afk on follow scholar everyone but the healer gets a com. I find it hard sometimes after a 8 man trying to pick people.

The usual answer to this is why I dont com DPS often at all.

As a tank/healer, we can tell when a dps'er is phenomenal at the damage part. I know how often stuff dies with people who are derping around on alt jobs. I can use clear speed and buff/debuffs as a pretty decent metric. I care a LOT less about a minute or two here or there as I do not running out TP for a few too many overpowers when you can press a button and go most of the way to solving that problem. (and the worse you are at damage, the better I expect you to be at any sort of utility you possess).

I don't care what role someone is. If someone sticks out as being particularly helpful, friendly or polite I give that person a commendation. If the run was uneventful and we all did well I pick someone at random. If someone sticks out as being a jerk I make a point of avoiding giving it to them. That's all that really matters.

Even on PS4 it's not hard to see what's going on in a bad group, I had a Monk in Skalla today whose rotation was Bootshine > True Strike > Rock Breaker (on single target) or Snap Punch with no positionals, the RDM never used Scatter and hard casted Veraeros.

I didn't need a 3rd party program to see that things were dying slow and people weren't using proper rotations, let alone them using their CDs.

What conditions would you normally commend other DPS players after you clear the instance?

These only apply when I'm not feeling like using one of alternative conditions, which I'll list at the bottom.

Main condition - notable performance such as handling of mechanics in a way that shows competence and understanding of the fight AND the group composition, to include use of utility abilities when and where available. Another Bard using Refresh, or a Machinist using Tactician during a big AoE pull, or a melee using Goad. Also if through timely use of resurrections (where available), spot healing, or some other element of the class saving a run that's gone haywire.

Secondary conditions:

The tank and healer keep screwing up mechanics, especially repeatedly. The other DPS doesn't have to stand out at that point to earn my commendation.

Alternative conditions not based on performance:

I really like their glamour.
I really like how their character looks (bonus points if a fellow Elezen).
Cute or funny name.
