Steam refunded my FFIV purchase, can't change my account type now. HELP!

I have a SE code now, but my account is stuck on the steam version. I explained to customer service how steam refunded my copy due to the steam store not stating SE codes would not work with it, only stated if you had purchased an expansion on steam it would need to be applied to a steam version. So steam refunded me.

I asked Square support for my SE code to be switched onto the account but they can't do that.

I'm being told to create a brand new account. I really want to play the game but my time is so limited and re-doing a couple weeks work at this point is something that would cause me not to play.

My only choice now is to try and raise noise on the forums and submit feedback and hope a higher up see's it. I would love to keep playing, please make some noise on this post if you can.

    Thank you very much.

considering all the problems people are having with the new iteration of this, removing the steam relation should really be an option.

Unfortunately this is not something that's likely to change anytime soon (people have been dealing with this since HW launch.) Even if SE were to make an announcement tomorrow, you'd still probably be able to redo the work you already did in less time than it would take them to address the issue.

It's likely not just a company stance or policy in the way either, but something to do with their back-end systems that would probably take a lot of time/work to change. Not to mention contracts/legal issues that are probably in place with Steam.

If you really want to play the game, my advice to you would be just bite the bullet and start over. 2 weeks even for a casual player is not that much progress in the grand scheme of things.

This is probably an option for newer players but I wouldn't say it is for veterans. A lot of hours have been spent and lots of limited time rewards given out over the years which makes starting over a non-option. I certainly wouldn't want to redo my Garo achievements as one example among many, nor would I want to go through the trouble of purchasing a house for the 3rd time. As far as housing goes I'm finally where I want to be and I won't give that up. I would suggest to Steam players who are unhappy with how it functions, and potentially will function, that buying a PS4 would work out better. No progress lost and you don't have to worry about Steam. Sure, PSN may go down on occasion but it's perfectly playable 99% of the time.
