It usually depends on what i see from the healer. If the healer goes out of SP alot quicker than it should, i do tend to look at the health of the dps and the tank more.
At that point either the tank is doing something wrong, the dps is getting to much damage or the healer is not using his SP correctly.
Depending on that, someone will get the commendation
But i do have to agree it also depends heavily on role of myself.
When a tank, its alot easier to see wether the offtank is doing a good job. When a dps, you know what you are doing so its easier to judge wether the other dps is doing enough.
Healer i dont play to often.
Have to agree commendations for dps are a good bit more rare than for healer and tank ofcourse for obvious reasons. Less healer/tanks played make them more "valuable" than dps and people want to encourage them by it. Dps is mostly seen as the "easy" task in PvE (mostly coming from experience in other mmorpg's) and ofcourse the type of people youre partied with.
Yep ...... This surely would be a good place to place a famous quote...
But lets not.

When the player is nice and talks during an instance. I also tend to commend lalafell because I've got to show support for my favorite race.I've seen posts in Reddit an these forums of DPS players claiming they would usually or always commend the other dps. However, when I tank or heal, I usually get more than one commendation. So that leaves one dps without a commendation, especially during times when all party members have contributed to exceptionally wonderful dungeon/trial runs.
So I present this question to you, especially DPS mains:
What conditions would you normally commend other DPS players after you clear the instance?![]()

I always commend my tank as a healer unless they are bad then I'll commend one of the dps.
I usually commend DPS unless they weren't AoEing or not using their abilities, if the healer is DPSing and going all out though I'll commend them more but it's a toss up usually. And 90% of the time I'm tanking so I dont commend tanks unless I'm doing an 8 man trial or 24 man but usually I don't commend them unless they come shirk me or something its harder for tanks to stand out to me because they have to really do something to catch my interest since I'm a tank main.

As a Tank I generally commend the healer or when I see a dps going nuts on aoe for mobs/single target for bosses. Also if the DPS goes out of their way to help others it means the world to me. Like as a PLD if i'm spamming Total Eclipse and running low on TP when I get a Goad or Tact(without asking for it) it makes me smile and consider giving it to them.
Like if you want a fantastic example of something like this last night I was running the Burn as a PLD getting up my flashes before I switch to Sword and a BLM in my group Mana Shifted me to give me back MP. I was floored by this since I always play WAR/DRK and have never seen this happen to me before but I was extremely grateful as my party was all casters. That BLM secured my comm right then and there.

As a tank, I usually commend DPS classes depending on how quickly we fly through things. I've been in some dungeon runs where we burn through it really quick and some where it takes forever to get through it.
I just give it to whoever I thought was the best. Class doesn't really matter.

I commend on healers mainly because they saved my butt multiple times.

My comm usually follows these:
- Did the player do something really awesome? ( Example, tank died and healer/rdm/smn saves fight without wiping)
- Was the player particularly helpful? Amusing?
- If a new player, I usually give it to them if they did a decent job or listened and tried (even if we wipe)
- Really awesome glamour
If the run was a boring run I usually pass it to the a tank or healer, depending on the content (which one it was harder for). VERY RARELY no one gets and I gtfo.
