PS4 account help

My friend has been playing for years on PS4 with a physical copy, but he recently decided to purchase the digital version for convenience. Now he is unable to log into his account due to having to assign a new account to that purchase. (Which would make his current character inaccessible.)

Is there any way around this? He has had his character since the launch of ARR so losing it is not an option.

(I\\'ve seen posts on this but I couldn\\'t find any with a real solution to this problem.)

He didn't actually need to purchase it again...

All he has to do is simply delete the game from his PS4 and then reinstall it. But instead of using the disc, redownload it from his library and then voila it's a digtal version from then onwards. Obviously it will take some time to redownload so be prepared for that!

So basically try and refund the 2nd copy if he can (probably can't) and if not just ignore it.

This is weird, I play on ps4 and installed the game with a phyiscal version (the ARR CD from the collector edition) once the game installed the cd become useless you don't need it in the ps4 to play. He shouldn't have had to buy a digital version. For the account issue it is maybe because the phisical version is still installed? since you can only have one FFXIV account per PSN account, they are linked forever.

Do as worldofneil says it should work.

Hey thanks guys! I relayed the message to him, but now he just needs to fain access to his account again. Once he does he can just do the uninstall and reinstall digitally as you stated above.
