Simple chocobo barding?

Chocobo barding tends to be very elaborate, and I'm not keen on the "human costume resized for bird" look that a lot of them have. The only others I've seen are the GC-themed war bardings with metal armour.

I'd really like to have some simple gear that looks like it's actually designed for a chocobo, and I've noticed some "NPC" chocobos that just have a plain leather harness with saddlebags, like these two near the Dappled Stalls in the Lavender Beds:



Is this barding available in the game anywhere?

I would love to have such a simple barding without GC symbols.

Those are not. Someone asked a question like this a while back and I think the conclusion was that the closest to that is the one from the racing achievement? Otherwise the answer is no at least not for us players.

That's what I mean by "human gear" though. It's not something designed for a chocobo (ie. the equivalent of what might be put on a real-world horse) but is a human coat with a hood and collar, just without the sleeves. It looks silly to me, like when people dress up their pets in dolls' clothes for a joke.

I also don't like that it (and other bardings) puts drapes over the wings.

You can unequip all barding and just have your chocobo go naked, if that's what you prefer. If you hit the square button/right-click on the barding it gives you the option to unequip each piece rather than choose a barding. The only thing the chocobo will have on is a basic no-nonsense saddle and bridle.

That's what I've been doing, actually. I definitely prefer it to any of the other available options, but it looks a little undergeared, and the design from the screenshot seems like the ideal balance to me. It looks like it's ready for a journey.

I'm particularly fond of the racing barding, but it requires a lot of progress in that minigame.

I would very much love this as well, and the NPC chocobos you pictured shows that such barding is indeed in the game's data. They would just have to release it. You'd also think it would be the default barding when they are not wearing anything, but alas 'tis not.

Start a petition and I'll make certain my retainers and I sign it^^

As a side note, it would also be really cool if the chocobos would lie down how we see them in the stalls when they sleep if we idle for a certain amount of time or lie down in the open world. It would make for some great screenshots while fishing or taking a rest!

Yeah, atm the only way to take a screenshot of your chocobo lying down, is if you get it killed, and that for me is too painful to ever do.
