    Black Chocobo - Flying?

OK I am not "new" new but back after lengthy absence. My char is lvl 54 and I got that black chocobo and it supposedly flies and those green things that float in places.

Is there a place where this is explained? My black chocobo does NOT fly as I found out with instant 'death' trying to Fly down a cliff lol
And how does the green thing in all the places work?
And all the above, does all that only happen when I am Level 60? So did I buy the Stormblood version for nothing until I reach level 60?

To fly you need to first unlock flight in each zone via what are called 'aether currents'. There are two types of aether currents that need to be collected for each zone; ones given as a quest reward via certain main story and side quests (which show as a green diamond icon on the quest description window in the journal), and those found out in the field, which are indeed the green swirly masses of aether (that you need to click on).

You can keep track of how many aether currents you have gained and still require in each zone by opening the Travel menu and selecting 'Aether Current', and then clicking on the heading for the zone you want (ones you have gained are yellow and green diamonds, ones still to be found are black). This is also how having underwater mounts swim and dive underwater in Stormblood areas are unlocked as well.

The aether currents on the field require you to walk up to them and click on, just like attuning to an aetheryte (they disappear once you attuned to them). So you only need to click on each one once. To find them, you can use the aether compass key item Haurchefant gave you when he gave you the Black Chocobo as it will give you a rough direction and estimate in yalms to the nearest aether current, although some might be in out of the way areas that may be inacessable at certain points in the story (the Sea of Clouds is particularly bad for that). So just be aware of this.

    Good hunting!

To further what the person before me has said. Here is a link to a wiki page that lists all the information on aether currents from both expansions.
