Even if I have to re-purchase Everything...

So I was noob when I bought FFXIV in the beginning and bought through Steam. I've bought each expansion through them begrudgingly after realize what a PITA it is to do so. I also pre-bought the Shadowbringers expansion through them because what else could I do? LOL!

However, I want to punt Steam from my system and never look back. Is there an option to buy every expansion, including Shadowbringers again (if I have to), because Steam is a POS app. #mistakesweremade

My add on to that is would I have to start over from scratch in the game or can I log into my own characters? *Praying there is some way to transfer all of my stuff over*.

You can buy everything again to not use steam. As long as you attach the new purchases to the same account on the mog station, you will keep everything you had in game.

Edit: I think I read that it won't let you do that. My mistake. Lets see what others say to confirm or deny this.

Unfortunately, Steam licenses and PC licences for FFXIV, though treated differently in practice in most cases, are listed as the same thing on Mogstation, so you cannot have a PC-specific license and a steam specific license on the same service account. If you really want to have all your characters and stuff, you will need to go over to a PS4 license (or Mac if that floats your boat), since you can own that alongisde the computer licneses. Otherwise, you will need to create a new Service account, buy PC-specific licenses for the game and expansions, use their keys in this new service account and effectively start over.

Yes it sucks, but it is what it is, and we have no idea if they will ever change the license issue to be more friendly to consumers.

    Your edit is correct.

An account can only have one of PC or Steam.
    Whichever is applied first.
If you try to apply a code for the other, it will not work.

OP could divorce from their Steam account by repurchasing everything for PC, but they cannot, afaik, keep any of their stuff as it'll be a new account.

There is also the option of abandoning the PC platform and buying ps4 versions of everything and just using that....
They could keep their character that way.
But that may or may not be applicable or even desirable by the OP.

Just confirming the other posters: If you want to rid yourself of steam, you will have to rebuy everything and create a new account that is PC only. You will lose any progress and have to start over.

PS4 is an option, but I wouldn't really suggest it at this point. With PS4 aging, you'd probably want to wait for PS5 if you were going to do that.

Just curious, what is so bad about Steam that you want to purge yourself of it?

If you are so determined to get rid of Steam that you want to start over, the cheapest option would be to get the base game for free from Twitch Prime, buy Stormblood for $20, and then pre-order Shadowbringers.

Personally it's the looming shadow of Square Enix forcing people with Steam keys to authenticate through the Steam servers first is what's causing me to flee from the platform.

I mean i wouldn't start over for that... sounds like a minor inconvenience, unless i'm missing something

I do know that i was recommended to -not- use steam when i started, so maybe it is that bad

Basically the story of authentication problems come from ESO where the authentication servers on Steam will go down and not be repair for some time in which people on Steam cannot log onto said MMO because Steam can't keep their stuff from breaking. The worst of these "outages" I've heard that it was down for a whole month and I personally don't want to know what effect even more traffic on these fragile servers will do to them. At this point I can't flee from Steam and pray that Square Enix reverses their decision because I'm waaay too deep time and money wise to make another account to get away from Steam.

Is there any way to request for customer support to delete the Steam keys from your account? And then you could register a new PC copy?

Or yeah, PS4 is an option, and you can still use PC mouse/keyboard controls if you like.

I'm not sure if this is still the case, but as somebody who migrated from ESO, I can confirm that I used to bypass the Steam related issues by simple making a shortcut to the launcher exe directly. It would ask me for password instead of automatically signing in, just like the standalone accounts, and I could log in even when Steam was down or experiencing issues.

Maybe this game will offer something similar? It's been speculated that they're doing this to appease Valve because Valve hates hosting games without DRM. However, many games with encrypted/protected executables do not actually need a constant internet connection to be played. For example, you can play Skyrim when Steam is in offline mode. If the updated client for Steam does only the bare minimum stuff to appease Valve, then who knows? Offline mode might be an option.
