    Frame Rate Drops

Hey guys newer player here been playing for about 2 weeks. I have been struggling to figure out what is wrong with my laptop. I've been having really bad frame rate drops going from 90 fps to 20-30 fps every couple of minutes or so. I did some tinkering around (set graphics cards to maximum power made sure they were update checked my power plan settings etc) and nothing has been working. I went into my task manager settings and a realized that my graphics card is somehow switching to the intel integrated one every couple of minutes which is causing my framerate drops. I tried to disable it in the device manager but when i went back into final fantasy it told me it couldnt recognize my nvidia card? If anyone has any advice i would greatly appreciate it i have tried almost everything and i have no clue what it could be.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Has this always been a problem since starting the game? Or did it start occurring sometime afterwards?

You can try to assign the Nvidia graphics card manually. Open the Nvidia Control Panel and going to 'Manage 3D Settings'. From here, select 'Program Settings' and select Final Fantasy XIV. You should see an option to select the GPU. Make sure it's set to your dedicated graphics card (it may be set to 'Auto' by default).

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Does it use Nvidia Optimus? If it does often the signal from the Nvidia GPU is sent through the integrated GPU, so disabling will cause what you saw. Also it has a tendency, at least in my experience to switch GPU's under light load and generally be a pain in the butt. I think settings pertaining to Optimus are in the Nvidia Control Panel? I cannae remember as it's been a few years since I had a laptop with it but I recall there was an function key press and a reboot required. Not sure if it's yer issue but jus food fer thought!
