Is it lag or something else?

I've been going back trying to finish off some of the older quests I never completed. Last night I tried doing The Navel Extreme and found it was nearly impossible for me. The thing is, I kept dying to mechanics that I was clearly avoiding. When the boss would do the 3 line aoe I'd be the first one to move out of and (at least on my screen) I was farthest from the knockback area. Yet I would get knocked off the edge every time. Once I even ran through the boss and stood with the main tank for a good two seconds before the mechanic fired, and again I was knocked off the edge.

Some of the other players said they saw the same thing I was seeing. That I was clearly out of the aoe. Others said I never moved out of the aoe on their screen. This seems to happen on a lot of fights and I don't know what to do about it. I've ran every speed test I can find and I always max out the reading. Is there some kind of setting I can make to improve this?

I'll just get this out of the way: are you on wifi?

Since you've been around for ages, I'd assume you're already familiar with the way the game counts aoe ticks-- mob casting bar > anything graphical.

If that's out of the way, then I'd say it's your network or your ISP. Do the basic stuff to make sure your hardware's fine, then once that's clear you might consider something like the Tunnelbear trial to see if rerouting your connection would help.

No. Hard wired. But yeah, that would have been my first question too.

    Did you restart your router?

That's usually step 1 of any internet related problem, restart it and find out if it's the same.

I am not very tech savvy, but I would suggest giving your ISP a call. I was having problems for a few days with this, and then my Internet cut out entirely, turns out I had some damaged Internet wires outside of my house.
I would recommend, if your Internet provider offers this service, to call your isp and have them quickly check for any connection problems. A year ago I called them, and they said I was getting way slower Internet than I should be getting, and changed some settings, checked some wires, and it got a lot faster. Since then, I call them from time to time when the connection is a bit iffy and they often find broken wires, and sometimes they can reset the connection on their end and make it run more smoothly.

Probably lag. You kind of have to move out of things before they are even gonna hit. When I used to farm Suzaku or whatever for the colored floors you kind of had to pre-move out of them as the other one next to you was exploding. You get used to it though..

I've seen people - and been - knocked up halfway into another color on that fight..

I just did Titan Ex earlier to help a friend farm for the pony.

In 2 of those runs, I got knocked off even though I clearly dodged(at least on my screen) and was nowhere near those lines.

I'm on a fiber broadband connection (500mbps) and my connection to the PC is wired. However, I'm outside NA and have an average latency of 250ms and it can go higher sometimes.

I find that for fights like Titan Ex, I have to dodge as soon as he casts the multi-landslide.

If his casting bar even gets to a quarter full,it doesn't matter if I'm clearly behind his ass (at least on my screen), out of the lines, I'm getting knocked off that platform.

As someone who's always at least 2k miles + away from any data center.. it's probably lag.

I could NOT do EX fights untill they made them a little more forgiving and even now if I'm not IMMEDIATELY moving as soon as they go up I get hit.

Sucks. Could you do them before? Have you moved? Did you change ISPs?
