Messenger of the Winds too hard for me

I'm playing my BLM level 50 in the Garuda fight for messenger of the winds and noctis keeps dying to the mini supercell and I don't really know how to help him. I've tried it more times than I can count and I don't really know what to do. Any help/tips/suggestions?

Yeah that attack was what I kept failing to as well - eventually I realized the whole battle is just a stupid DPS check as usual and thus I had to put myself in Sword Oath (as I'm PLD main), in addition to the Echo buff kicking in that enabled me to take Garuda down quickly enough (it appears he can only survive up to two Mini-Supercells in the battle - the third one and he's a goner).

Making sure you're using the Warp Strike duty ability effectively too helps a great deal, as if you time it right with Noctis, you get a damage bonus that helps a lot. But it was Mini-Supercell that was what did Noctis in... every single time.

So just keep at it and you should eventually win through this annoying fight (battered and bruised though).

You can't help him. He dies if you're taking to long to deal enough damage.
Have you checked your gear and your rotation if there is room for improvement? Also, like Enkidoh said, make sure to time your warp strikes with Noctis to combo-attack for extra damage.

Cleared it with BLM, but was synced, so probably still had a better stat advantage. But still, never even really paid attention to his health, and he never died on me.
As far as rotation goes, there's not really much to it at 50. B3 when you're low on MP, worth throwing in T3 especially for Thundercloud procs, F3 when you're full on MP, Fire spam until out of MP.

If lag or latency or whatever isn't keeping you from the Link Strikes, I realized rather late that you can get an extra one in with the stack/knockback attack. As BLM, I was content to just get back to spellcasting, still in range, but Noctis warps back in, so, easy chunk of damage from that, too.

Otherwise, yeah, would maybe check gear. If your character is the same as what's connected here on the forums, you've got a lot of stuff wayyyy out of date. You should easily be able to find a weapon of ilvl 100 or so, ilvl 46 is never going to cut it. Your rings need updating as well. As for the left side gear, if you've done your 50 job quest, you should have better versions of pretty much all of that.

Assuming lodestone is correct, gear is 100% your issue here.

For the mini supercell you need to stack with Noctis. In general you need to make sure he gets hit by as few AOE attacks as possible, or he will die on you.
Manage that, and time the warp strikes correctly and the fight is doable.

Im going to second what Hasrat said. Some back of the envelope math says that your gear is adding less then half of the potential stats for level 50. Most importantly, your weapon damage stat(THE most important stat for determining how hard your spells hit) is roughly half what it could be as well(46 vs 82). Just upgrading to an ilvl 120 or 130 staff(and leaving the rest of your gear as is) might be enough on its own to get you past this fight, and you will seriously notice when your spells are hitting twice as hard(the full upgrade Hasrat suggests would be nice too, did you do the level 50 class quest for the set of gear?). The easiest options for a weapon upgrade would be to spend some poetics for an Ironworks Staff(ilvl 120 - upgradable to 130), or get a crafted Yeti Staff(ilvl 115, make sure you get HQ if you go this route because the extra 8 weapon damage is worth it). Beyond that, its mostly timing with the warp strikes(and failing a couple times for the echo to kick in wouldnt hurt either if youre close).

Mini Supercell is one of those line stack aoes that does more damage to the first person it hits. Stand in front of Noctis so you get hit first instead of him. Also you have to play tank in this fight and keep Garuda aimed away from Noctics as much as possible, or he will get hit by cleaves and things.

Also, I wasn't sure until I re-watched a video of someone playing the fight again, but it does seem to be true that the further you are from Garuda the more damage Warp Strike does, just like in FFXV. If you use it right in her face it does like 50 damage, but keeping her on one side of the arena and warp striking in from the other side is around 2-3k easy damage you can spam, even without link striking

I am a brand new player, newly 50 and I am about to quit this game over Garuda. In other games I have done really well and have not epic failed like this. I don't know if the Ninja rotation is too difficult or what or if my DPS is really bad since I have only been playing for 30 days. But for an "event" to be this frustrating makes me wonder if this game is worth playing. All I want are those damn boots.

Thanks so much to everyone who helped out in this thread! After upgrading my gear as much as I could and using the "stand in front of noctis during mini supercell" trick, I finally managed to beat it! I hope everyone else having trouble on this boss has good luck <3

Can't say for sure, since lodestone is only showing you as RDM right now, but gonna take a guess from that and say you've got the same issue. Unless your NIN has much better accessories, make sure your gear is actually up to snuff.

The thing about this being a level 50 quest is there is a massive jump in gear/stats once you hit 50. Leveling until then, sure, you can get away with skimping on this or that, you're not missing out on too much up to level 49. But 50 is base game level cap, with several patches worth of gear upgrades to go through. So, being tuned for 50 means it's probably tuned to at least item level 90, and you're probably best off aiming for somewhere closer to ilvl 115.

If, however, you're all decked out as NIN, rotation wise, pretty sure there's not much to it besides 1-2-3. Follow your combo, keep Shadow Fang applied, and make sure Huton is always active. Use Raiton or Shuriken whenever mudras are off cooldown. If you wanna get real fancy, you can use Suiton (and you'll probably need True North since you're tanking) to apply Trick Attack, but I'm sure you'd get by without the extra Vulnerability debuff.
