DirectX 11 audio crash

This afternoon (with no changes made by me) ffxiv has become unplayable on DirectX 11 unless I mute the game entirely.
If I unmute it I instantly get this error:

and the game closes, if it is unmuted when it loads up it either crashes on the start menu or has no audio.

The game ran without issue this morning after the update.

The issue does not occur on DirectX 9

DX11 support for this game has always been garbage tbh.
Square plz, these issues are important! If you're going to make the game DX11-only come ShB, these crashes can't continue to occur!

MayHayashi, does this audio crash happen when headphones are plugged in? What have you tried so far to alleviate the issue? Also, could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

I always play with headphones so yes, it does happen with headphones.
So far I have tried restarting, using different headphone ports, disabling/enabling audio outputs and reinstalling audio drivers.

Does the crash happen when headphones are not plugged in? Also, on the system report, it looks like the the last update for the sound drivers was done back in 2017. Please make sure they are updated to a more recent driver? Also have you tried plugging in a different headset? Does the crash happen with all headsets?

Try doing a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC.
