Just another voice chiming in with the same problem, and hoping that SE can throw us a bone on this one. The game itself is probably still running just fine; it's frustrating that we're locked out of getting to it just because of a launcher issue.

Has this ever happened before? I know the 404 error is old, but did any previous patches break the game in this way?
AKA is there hope for a fix, or are we locked out of the game for the near future?
I think this is the first time it has broken like this in a while, but I'm hopeful for a fix as this is likely something SE can easily reenable if they care. If not, there are some amazing minds in the community and I doubt we'll go longer than Thursday without a good workaround.

No, because the actual game itself runs fine and has survived multiple expansions. Whenever there's a problem, it's always been launcher-related. But it's actually not been a real problem until now... Not since early 2.x I believe.
Just posting this message to show that linux users exists.
So I was starting the game and pretty enjoying it, pre-ordered SB and looking forward for it, I hope Square will fix this, that doesn't seems beeing a huge bug.

Here's the github issue for anyone who might be interested: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/580

Another Manjaro Linux voice and developer for a major Insurance company client. I REFUSE to run that horrid security void hole, Winblows 10. If Proton support is gone so is my sub Square "Microsoft and Sony Shile" Enix, Yoshida can take a paycut for all I care if Square Enix cannot test against Proton. I am not going to run around with my box open to security attacks just to play this game. As in "Goodbye FF14" if this dose not get resolved. No I am not going to play this on a Playstation 4 either when I have this spec:
OS: Manjaro Linux
KERNEL: 4.19.20-1-MANJARO
CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X 16-Core
GPU: Radeon RX Vega
DRIVER: 4.5 Mesa 18.3.2
RAM: 32 GB
Why would I "bother" playing on a console compared to what I have here. Especially with Mesa and Vulkan being better optimized then the DX11 and the closed source AMD drivers. 80-86 FPS on Winblows/DX11, 110-130 on Manjaro / Vulkan. It a 30 fps difference on 1% lows before the patch. Do not get me started on the temps in Winblows vs Manjaro..... Vulkan barely pushes my card passed 60c, DX11 rides my card harder then a pimp dose on it's streeters in Memphis on Tillman street.

My question is I already pre-ordered Shadowbringers and was only in the first month of my 6 month subscription. If this makes the game unplayable for me, does that mean that Square cancelled my contract on THEIR end by this action, does that mean Square legally owes me $100 - $40 for pre-order, $60 for unused subscription 5 months @ $12/mo prorated?
Everything has been running so well with proton in steam, this really makes me sad that we are running into this issue. I do not think there is anything I myself can do to fix it, and I will only run linux.

Oh I sooo agree and I have pre-paid legal just for said issues. If this is proven to be an act against the Linux community this will be a dug into.My question is I already pre-ordered Shadowbringers and was only in the first month of my 6 month subscription.
