Understandable, but Sony seems like it's making the SAME mistakes that lead to the PS3 crappo start. Hopefully SE makes a harder case to making them drop the wall and play nice with XIV, I'd love to inspect a player and see an Xbox tag like I do when I see my fellow PSNers ingame. Pluss more people. With Fornite being shared with Nintendo and Mircosoft along with being able to use Live on the Switch we'll see if Sony lets up and joins the party.
Indeed, people picking a "side" is rather common. I guess it's our ancestral tribal instincts kicking in. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with it. It becomes problematic when folks defend brands or products at the detriment of their own interests. For example, I'm sure that some people were defending the system wide, always on DRM features the Xbox One was supposed to launch with. Even though it was entirely anti-consumers. Those people were not idiots, they knew it was terrible, but brand loyalty made them disregard their own interests.

You're absolutely right, we the players would benefit greatly from a more open interconnectivity between systems. Whether it be with FFXIV or any other game that has online components. More people is always beneficial.
