There are very few costume weapons that can be glamoured like the scythe.
Besides bills, there are a couple bardiches that look less axey and more poley. There's also the Blackbosom Reaper, a cash shop weapon.

Error 3102 Club, Order of the 52nd Hour
nope
but the game needs more alternate weapon skins
like a claymore for samurai ,if a Dark knight can get a club don't see why warrior cant get a hammer or something
I'd like to see them branch out a bit more with weapon design. Flails/maces for paladins, warhammers for Warriors, that kind of stuff. Not sure what they'd do with DRK though, considering their animations are so much more suited for greatswords.
They likely want to keep things in reserve for any future job concepts, like what Nomura said about Gaia's warhammer. DRK could get more scythes I guess, as a nod to their XI iteration if anything.
If ARR didn't use the holdover Armory System from 1.0, we could have had a lot more interesting diversity of jobs and weapons. In FFXI for example, you changed jobs in a menu and every job could use 3-8 different weapons (to varying degrees of effectiveness). For example, Dark Knights specialized in Scythes and Greatswords, but could also wield axes, greataxes, swords, shields, and even crossbows. It would have been cool if in XIV, jobs had 2 or 3 different types of weapons they could use that changed their weapon skills and damage types, but it's far too late for that.... Like equipping a mace on a PLD would change your major combos to other types of combos with overall similar end result but deals blunt damage and maybe had one or two weapon skills in a combo that cleaved, etc.
Have just realised there is yet another weapon exchange at the Wolves' Den - Hellhound gear from the Feast Quartermaster at the aetheryte plaza.
The paladin weapon isn't a sword but a "war pick" (looks like a one-handed halberd) and the warrior battleaxe is halfway to a really bulky scythe. Cool-looking weapons all round. (But apparently requires winning at PVP so out of the question for me.)
Yeah... and if you were a DRK main and used anything besides a Scythe prepare for ridicule (greatsword had its niche areas and K.klub 2hr zerg is an exception obviously). Point being, even if we could use a slightly wider array of weapons, there will always be a meta. And when people don't play by the meta they're not gonna get to raid, not seriously anyway. Seriously, an illusion of choice is exactly that. Especially when there's always a mathematically more efficient weapon to use. Not trying to sound rude or anything but that's how it is, how it was, and how it always will be lol.If ARR didn't use the holdover Armory System from 1.0, we could have had a lot more interesting diversity of jobs and weapons. Uh, it was always the other way around. Scythe was shit always unless fighting trash mobs. Remember, other than Spiral Hell, all of Scythe weapon skills were multihit which missed or hit for 100 damage. You didn't use Guillotine on HNMs and gods, you used Spinning Slash and Groundbreaker with Sneak Attack+Trick Attack. Seriously, DRKs only use Scythe for Guillotine for merit parties, and even then, they were better off using Great Sword for Spinning Slash, or even /NIN and dual wielding axes for Rampage.Yeah... and if you were a DRK main and used anything besides a Scythe prepare for ridicule (greatsword had its niche areas and K.klub 2hr zerg is an exception obviously).
